2012 ‘Bama signee verbally re-ups with Tide

Brick

After spending several months at a military boarding school, and following a brief verbal flirtation with Ole Miss, Brandon Hill is back in the Alabama recruiting fold.  Probably.

Multiple recruiting outlets are reporting that the offensive lineman has again verbally committed to the Tide.  Hill was originally a member of Alabama’s 2012 recruiting class but failed to qualify, leading him to attend the Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia as he got his academic house in order.

In November, Hill had verbally committed to Ole Miss.  No specific reason was given for the flip-flop over the past month, although, as is ofttimes the case when it comes to recruiting in the SEC, there appears to be some drama and intrigue attached to the decision.

From the Jackson Clarion-Ledger:

A source close to the Ole Miss program said that Hill signed a letter barring him from attending another SEC school while attending Hargrave.

It’s a little known rule that Alabama took advantage of, only available to postgraduate students. Hill also was not aware what he was signing, the source said.

247Sports.com rates Hill as the No. 1 prep school offensive tackle in the nation.  The tackle, who stands 6-7 and weighs “a tad more than 400-pounds” according to TideSports.com, is expected to enroll at Alabama in January.

    6′ 7″ and 400lb is a BMI of 45.

I realize BMI is meant for more or less normal people, not well conditioned athletes, but isn’t this a bit much?

    Barrett Jones is 6′ 5″/300 which give a 36.

I wonder what their percent body fat is?

That is a load of crap. There is no letter that obligates a player to go anywhere. Also as to Hill’s weight, that will be something he will regret during the offseason as Coach Cochran works him into shape!

I’ll half-jokingly say I don’t care what his body fat percentage is; 400 of anything is a load to move no matter what.

As for being unaware of what he was signing… really? Do you always sign things without reading them first to see what it is you’re committing to? Last time I did that I ended up married (just kidding, dear :) ).

I did an adult fitness program at LSU a long time ago run by a PhD exercise physiologist. He said they ran body fat on some of the linemen at the time, Ramsey Dardar is the name I remember, and it was around 3%.

I doubt that his body is made to take that weight.

    My 2¢
