San Jose State gives the WAC a final bowl win before its demise

Beginning next year, the Western Athletic Conference will no longer sponsor football as other mid-major conferences have picked apart the league. But at least the WAC is going out on top.

No. 24 San Jose State gave their soon-to-be former conference a win over Bowling Green in the Military Bowl, 29-20, and the Spartans capped off 2012 with the first 11-win campaign for the program since 1940. SJSU quarterback David Fales threw for 395 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

The Military Bowl began as a defensive struggle that featured blocked punts by both teams before the offenses warmed up in the second half. SJSU converted a Matt Schilz sack and fumble into a late touchdown. A Fales pass to tight end Ina Liaina appeared to have been fumbled into the end zone, but officials ruled Liaina down and the Spartans scored two plays later.

The WAC finishes 2-0 in bowl games this season (Utah State defeated Toledo 41-15 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl). Bowling Green drops to 8-5.
