Academics cost Ole Miss a TE for bowl game

When Ole Miss takes the field for the Jan. 5 BBVA Compass Bowl, it’ll do so without the services of a veteran part of its passing game.

First-year head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed Friday that Jamal Mosley is academically ineligible and will not play in the postseason matchup with Pittsburgh. The senior tight end is the lone Rebel who will not play due to academic issues.

Freeze flatly stated that the academic situation he was hired into left him pleasantly surprised that Mosley was the lone casualty.

With all the academic issues we inherited when we got here, you’re never going to be totally out of the woods, even though we did well to this point,” Freeze said according to the Biloxi Sun-Herald.

In 12 games this season, Mosley had 15 receptions for 171 yards and three touchdowns. The latter total was tied for second on the team.
