to RS who said the Ducks would never win a national championship...wow, they lost by 3 points on a last second field goal in their previous trip there..not exactly blown away, were they? they have 4 straight BSC bowl games, and the past 2 yrs have been within 1 field goal in each loss that would have put them back there again...in spite of the so called worst conference in the nation. they are not embarrassing themselves with anyone, and now that they have recruited a kicker, with a little luck ( which it always takes no matter how good you are )they definitely have the tools to get there...and to win it.

Begs the question, if Chip Kelly wanted to go to the NFL, why would he, or anyone for that matter, want to coach in Cleveland?

richabbs: Where is QB that is going to run Kelly's offense in this draft? Where is the QB that he can acquire who can run that offense? Vince Young? Michael Vick? Denard Robinsion!?

As far as RGIII goes, they are not running Chip Kelly's offense. They have included some zone read & option plays into Shanahan's offense that has always used zone blocking, power running and moving the QB out of the pocket to throw. Get back to me in 3-4 years and see how much running RGIII does. He was already injured this year, and those injuries only mount up as you get older.

Besides the zone read game that Kelly runs, he also runs a zero protection scheme with his blocking, which is fine in college when you have receivers who are fast and can get open quick. In the NFL we have seen teams try that zero protection scheme before. Remember Steve Spurrier with Skins? How did that work for his QBs? Ask Jay Cutler what he thought of Mike Martz zero protection schemes in Chicago.

mdac1012 says:

"Despite what some have said on this forum, Kelly would have to do some serious re-vamping of his offense to get it to work in the NFL level and not get his QB killed in the process."

Yeah, right. The Redskins, imitating Kelly's offense, are one of the hottest NFL teams right now, with a rookie QB leading the way. Against the Cowboys, they made Demarcus Ware, one of the best defensive players in the league, look like a rookie. And the Patriots, who have adopted Kelly's no-huddle, hurry-up offense, ran 85 plays in their win against the Broncos, probably the best D in the NFL this year. What it looks like to me is that good NFL teams are re-vamping toward Kelly-type strategies, not the other way around.

Happy New Years to all the CFT’ers. You all have been fun to debate with throughout the last year.

Agreed! Happy New Year. Txnative61 has my head spinning right now with his comment but assuming he was trying to say the PAC-12 isn't the 2nd worst conference I agree. Chip Kelly can coach. He has all the signs of a good coach in that he has won at every level he coaches. I think his system is a little too specific in the type of QB that's needed but he could absolutely have success with his system in today's NFL. Unfortunately Brandon Weeden wouldnt be somebody that could run it but he would be a home run hire. And the guy that said Shaw is the better coach- I 100% agree. Shaw is going to be a gem for somebody someday when he leaves Stanford. What he did this year is nothing short of amazing.
