Might as well lump O’Brien into the leave-before-the-sh!t-hits-the-fan crowd. He got the sympathy vote at Penn State this year because of the ‘situation’ he was put in. But in reality, the defections of a few players didn’t really negatively impact his team or their won/lost record (maybe with the exception of Redd going to USC). With the sanctions REALLY starting to kick in next year, and a decent record to boast from this year, he’s in the perfect spot to bolt before he has to really coach under the constraints of those sanctions. He’s playing his cards perfectly. He’ll parlay his one year stint into a better gig. I say good for him.

Pulling a Pete Carroll. Gets really good teams by cheating, then leaves where nothing can be done to him; but the school gets punished. I wonder if Nike can buy Oregon’s way out of their upcoming sanctions. Oregon does have hot cheerleaders though, but they’re from out of state.

Oregon and the Little PAC12 is not a place to win a NC. Kelly however is one of the best coaches in college football. He should go pro.

Tampa couldn’t afford Kelly last year. No way the Bills have the cash to outspend Oregon, let along two other NFL Franchises.

College coaches are dominating the NFL. Good move to bypass boring NFL retreads…..coaching an NFL team is cake compared to being the ruler of a major college football program. It’s merely coaching at NFL level. In college it requires you be CEO, GM, politician, fund raiser, father figure and then coach.

Right, because Saban never left an SEC team for the NFL. Neither did Spurrier. Definitely just a Pac 12 thing.

So many was sure that Saban was going, but mdac if right, his style just doesn’t play in the nfl. I always thought Les Miles has an NFL style. I think Kelly goes, sanctions are coming and you need an NFL defense to stay strong when you run that offense.

Possible sanctions are the biggest reasons, if not only reasons, Chip will skip out on Oregon.

Can the Browns really be considered a move UP the football ladder?

If Kelly goes to the pros, I think it will be interesting to see how an NFL locker room reacts to him considering he has never played or coached on the pro level. Before coaching at Oregon he was a FCS OC at New Hampshire. I know guys have done it in the past, but it’s a different era now than when Jimmy Johnson did it in the late 80′s.

That college shtick doesn’t work in the pros. Even Bobby Petrino, who was a coach with the Jaguars, couldn’t make that transition back to the pros after coaching in college. Saban had a national championship when he took over the Dolphins, but the “I’m the boss and that’s the way it is” approach doesn’t translate in the NFL anymore, unless your Bill Belichick and you have a fist full of Super Bowl Rings.

I think Kelly is making a big mistake,maybe the Ducks should throw some money his way and try to keep him.Its not going to be easy putting a pro team on a winning edge when imo were never that good anyway.Bama fans must be happy that Saban stayed,guess its just a thing in the Pac 12.

College coach to NFL is not always successfull. Browns need a proven leader in the NFL. Get out the checkbook and get somebody good. Chip Kelly is not the answer.
