gatorprof... I will have to wave the white flag... you got me on all accounts. Thanks for the data, although we both know... except maybe to different degrees that data isn't always the judge and jury.

Best Wishes to you in 2013... you're an extremely bright person and well informed with a bit of a slant to the team you love and the team(s) you apparently hate, and that's perfectly ok, because that's what makes college sports so grande... love and hate! We will see you and your base down here come Sept 7th, 2013. Hopefully we will be able to keep the game competitive for the first half.

canehouse,

Thanks for the history lesson. Like I said, none of Gator success (began with Spurrier...first SEC title) was marred by NCAA violations. UM is a habitual offender. You cannot duck that.

Let me see if I understand this correctly....

Your program is currently in the dumps, barely scraping by at .500 in a piss poor conference.

Your program is mired in a NCAA investigation (seems like this happens every decade or so) with self imposed sanctions and a hammer likely coming down.

Yes, it is nice that your GSR is up to 94. Could poor roster talent be an issue here?

I will take a GSR of 75% (again, cleaning up Meyers' mess a bit here), zero NCAA issues, and a top 10 team any day.

As for the quality of the institution, be careful before tossing stones.

I cannot comment much on UM's academics as it is a fairly highly rated school in some areas, but we can go to the rankings. If you do your homework, you will see similar things about UF. Private school and land grant public schools have two different missions, so it is hard to compare apples to apples here.

Given UF's public mission, it has to be a top research school to survive. This is recognized by its AAU membership. Miami isn't a member of AAU and really isn't a major research/technology player when compared to UF.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_American_Universities#Membership

meaning that UM isn't really considered a top research U overall. This is especially true in engineering where I work.

The NSF rankings indicate this more dramatically.

UF beats UM in Law as well. Ditto for Medical School. Both of these are based on UNWR rankings.

Not saying Miami is bad academically, but UF beats it easily in terms of quality in the areas of medicine, science and technology, engineering, and law.

Gatorprof... some good points of discussion for arguement on your behalf... Yes, I am going back over decades... forgot to include ARMY... not HARVARD. The dominance of Notre Dame in the postwar era, when the Fighting Irish played four seasons without a loss (36-0-2, 1946 to 1949) is self-evident. Oklahoma won 47 consecutive games without a loss from 1953 to 1957. Not only does that streak remain the longest in college football history, but only two programs have come within one season of matching it. Miami (2000 to 2002) and USC (2003 to 2005) both won 34 consecutive games. Spare be me the I have to go back to the 80's beating my chest or as you say thump your chest.

Earlier iterations of the Hurricanes and Trojans qualified as dynasties without the winning streaks, because they brought home more hardware over longer periods of time. USC won three wire-service championships from 1967 to 1974. Miami built the longest sustained dynasty, which also happened to be the most unusual. Some of Hurricane fans refer to as the microwave dynasty... never the less... it was dominant... and your Gators ran for cover. In the decade beginning in 1983, Miami won four national championships (1983, '87, '89, '91), fell one loss short of four others ('85, '86, '88, '92), and did it all under three different head coaches: Howard Schnellenberger (1983), Jimmy Johnson (1984 to 1988) and Dennis Erickson (1989 to 1994).

Sad that someone that seems to be as informed as you... would reference the Catholics vs Convicts rubbish. That was nonsense, and marketing... trust me ND wasn't exactly choir boys... not many football players are... except for maybe Gordi Lachbaum, and Timmy Tebow. Speaking of saints and sinners how many players were arrested during Urbans two titles... How many? 31!!! 10 of which were of the felony variety... How many were cleaned up by your precious "cleaner"... at least 9. Just for the sake of history... Let's blow some dust off of the old Charlie Pell, Galen Hall eras and see what kind of nonsense was running wild... i recall hookers or "gator getters" on planes for recruits... nothing wrong with that... unless you're not into that sort of thing.

Yes FSU had an extremely dominant run... and also fielded some of college footballs best and FSU could be considered a dynasty if it weren't for Miami. But I do have to give it to Bobby... he never ducked us... he has been known to say that he is going to have "at Least he played Miami" on his headstone.

I also believe head to head we have a slight margin over you... could be wrong on it... perhaps you know??

It's not a pathetic exsistense... we UM alum, very much look forward to getting through these next few lean years and continuing with our players Graduation Success Rates at over an 80% click, where is UF on Graduation Success Rates? Please enlighten me... Also i know the university that I expect you work for is a very good one... very good one... but it's not as prolific as the tiny university in Coral Gables, FL.

Re: "Gators will never reach the level of dominance and legacy of dynasty that UM has garnered."

"UF is upper echelon, but they haven’t completed a run of dominance that the likes of Bama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC and Miami have done. That’s a fact Jack!!"

Where to start here.... How do you define "run of dominance"? Is there a certain number of years involved or a certain number of titles in a certain number of years? How far back to you need to go to discuss dominance and have it be relevant? You could have a whole thread on that alone.

I will say that since 1990, UF has been as good as any of the schools in that list. I count 3 national titles. In the BCS era, I count 2. That would be more than UM, ND, USC, OK and equal to Bama.

I would offer to you that the Spurrier era by itself was dominant by most measures. Six consecutive 10 win seasons (only been done 3 x). 120 wins in 10 seasons (only SS did this). 6 SEC titles, 1 national title. All with a clean program. Toss in Meyer's 2 titles and UF is as good as any of the teams mentioned since 1990.

I will comment on a few things that you may not like to hear...

1) You will note that there were no NCAA sanctions after any of our title years. Can you say the same about UM? What about USC?

2) You are going very old school when you talk of ND dominance....1940s. Are you going to talk about Harvard next?

3) OK hasn't been dominant since the 70s. The Gators destroyed them in a title game.

4) You have to go back to the 80s to thump your chest. Yup, the Canes were great, but they also were dirty and were busted.

5) You forgot to add FSU's run under Bowden in terms of a dominant program.

When you talk about Legacy and do a word association between UF and UM, it doesn't favor UM.

It is pathetic when you had games called "Catholics vs. the Convicts" and your team was the convicts.
Couple that with Luther Campbell's pay for play and Shapiro's stuff, along with some of your outstanding murderous alumni (Ray Lewis, Blades, and more recently Sharpe).

Sorry, but UM folks cannot talk smack at any level right now. It must be a pathetic existence when you have to look back in time to an era of NCAA sanctions to be excited about your program.

I will take my team being called overrated, more titles in the modern era and a bright future over yours any day.

The Canes are a long way from being anything but a punchline in a joke.

You know what I like best about watching Miami football games? Reminds me of Halloween. Most of their fans come disguised as empty seats.

#crazycane, since you guys are hosting next year's game, I was just wondering if you figured out yet which high school field you'll be using for the game? You know... since you lost your stadium and all.

Miami? You are crazy! They haven't been good in years and are about to face the NCAA again...give it up! They lost their stadium and no longer have an identity...and btw, U Meyer left Florida in a state of disarray.

Gaytors will have an early loss next year when they come down to Miami.

Gaytor fans will also begin to see what an overrated HC Muschamp is when his kids begin to take over and he no longer has Meyers kids to keep him in games. His loud mouth Gruden style of coaching will get tiresome real quick.

Florida has a good enough class coming in and athletes on their team, to fill these two guys slots. What they need badly is a QB that can throw. I think Mushcamp had better find one of those QB's that can, or they will lose a few big games again.
