Andersen announces additions to Badgers coaching staff

Two days after Wisconsin’s 2012 season ended in a thud in the Rose Bowl, new head coach Gary Andersen announced the addition/retention of a handful of assistants who will guide the Badgers in 2013.

All told, UW announced the names of seven assistants who will makeup Andersen’s first coaching staff.  Of those seven, three come along with Andersen from Utah State — defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, secondary coach Bill Busch and offensive line coach T.J. Woods.  Andersen had already confirmed the hiring of Aranda.

As previously reported, Andy Ludwig was hired away from San Diego State to serve as the Badgers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while Utah’s Chad Kauha’aha’a was hired as defensive line coach.

Additionally, Andersen retained former Bret Bielema assistants Thomas Hammock (running backs) and Ben Strickland (secondary).

“I am excited by the staff we have been able to assemble,” Andersen said. “They are quality coaches who bring the experience and philosophies that will enable us to continue playing great offense and defense at Wisconsin. They are also individuals who take care of kids first and will coach them in the right way.

“I have previously worked with the five coaches we are bringing in and I have gotten to know Thomas and Ben in the last few weeks so that familiarity will be beneficial. Both on offense and defense, these coaches have shown a lot of flexibility within their systems, and their main goal is to get the best 11 players on the field and build around their strengths. Our style on offense will be very familiar to Wisconsin fans while on defense I am confident that we can continue the great tradition of tough and physical units that has been established here.”

Andersen has two positions on his first UW coaching staff left to fill.

Sure hope to see Bart Miller on this list. That guy stepped up big and may potentially have been the teams MVP as an O Line coach.

I agree. I would be real worried if there is no continuity from the OLine coaches.
