It’s been nearly four weeks since Tommy Tuberville stunned most by leaving Texas Tech for Cincinnati, and in that time the new Bearcats head coach had announced just one member of his coaching staff. Until now.
In a release sent out Friday morning, Tuberville revealed he has brought six assistants to the Bearcats — four on the defensive side, two on the offensive side. All four of the defensive coaches were on Tuberville’s staff with the Red Raiders.
The biggest of the hires was Art Kaufman, who will continue on as Tuberville’s defensive coordinator. John Lovett, Robert Prunty and Fred Tate will also continue on with Tuberville in Cincinnati, carrying the coaching titles of defensive backs, defensive ends and defensive line, respectively. Prunty was also named associate head coach.
On the offensive side, Darin Hinshaw was named quarterbacks coach as well as passing game coordinator, while Blake Rolan will handle wide receivers. Both Hinshaw and Rolan were at Tennessee the past three years.
“I’m pleased with the staff we have assembled so far,” said Tuberville in a statement. “We have a group of excellent coaches with a wide variety of experience as well as strong recruiting ties and knowledge of Cincinnati and the Tri-State area. I’m excited to get started, finish off recruiting and prepare for spring football.”
In mid-December, it was announced that Eddie Gran was leaving Florida State to become Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator.
