Report: Chip Kelly close to leaving Ducks for Browns

Chip Kelly’s offense isn’t the only thing that churns at a high rate of speed.

Less than 24 hours after Oregon capped its 2012 season with a Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting that the Ducks’ head coach is on the verge of a deal with the Cleveland Browns. It had previously been reported that Kelly would interview with the Browns today, followed by interviews with the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles if the Browns could not seal the deal.

Based on Rapoport’s report, the deal is almost sealed, although that was also the case with Kelly and an NFL club this time last year.

If Kelly does indeed leave Eugene, it’s expected offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich will be promoted to succeed the fourth-year head coach.

Obviously, we’ll have more on this story as it develops...
