APPart of being a great offensive or defensive coordinator in college football is having your name continuously tossed into the coaching rumor mill. Michigan State DC, Pat Narduzzi, is experiencing that first hand.
Narduzzi’s name was connected to the Cincinnati job before the Bearcats pulled a stunner and hired Tommy Tuberville away from Texas Tech. Now, his name has apparently been mashed with USC.
No, not for the head coaching job, but for the defensive coordinator gig. On Saturday, Narduzzi denied any such speculation.
“There is absolutely no truth to anything that has been said about me coaching at USC. I have not talked to anyone at USC,” Narduzzi said.
Monte Kiffin‘s final game with the Trojans as DC was a disastrous Sun Bowl loss to Georgia Tech on New Year’s Eve (more so for the offense, but it was bad all around). The elder Kiffin announced his retirement in late November, but so far there has been no legitimate report connecting anyone to the job.
Michigan State’s defense ranked atop the Big Ten this season and top 10 nationally in all four major statistical categories (yards per game, points per game, rushing yards allowed, passing yards allowed). Those numbers indicated, rather strongly at that, Narduzzi will be on a different sideline sooner rather than later.
As a head coach.
