Nearly a month after losing Charlie Harbison to Auburn, Dabo Swinney has found a replacement.
Clemson confirmed Friday that Mike Reed has been hired as the Tigers’ defensive backs coach. Swinney cited Reed’s connection to Clemson’s conference as a big plus in the hire.
“I am exited to have Mike Reed join our staff,” said Swinney’s statement. “He brings the entire package. He is very familiar with our recruiting base. He is familiar with our players and he knows the ACC. He has had great success at NC State in terms of coaching All-ACC players and has significant experience coaching at the college and NFL level.
“I like the fact that he has worked for or played for some great coaches, people like Tom Coughlin, Tom O’Brien, Andy Reid and Jim Johnson. He is a very good fit for Clemson.”
Reed spent the past six seasons at North Carolina State as defensive backs coach. Prior to that, he was an assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2002-06.
