Well now that it is over you would think that the media, AP voters, Harris voters and Coaches who vote would learn a big lesson--being undefeated against a weak schedule means nothing. Losing two games in the SEC can still make you the best team in the country.

But ND is on the right track. Kelly and his staff are coping the SEC model and eventually it will pay off. That will take 3-4 years minimum but one day the Irish will again be a power to reckon with. But the media has not learned. They are picking teams like Ohio State in the top 5 for this year and last year when they had the softest schedule in the CFA. They are picking TAM 5th when they would beat anyone other than perhaps Alabama by a wide margin. They are putting Oregon in the top 5 when it has been proven time and again that Oregon cannot compete against elite SEC teams.

In looking at 2013 the safest bet is to pick an SEC team first. As long as Saban is at Alabama they are likely to remain the cream of the crop. Ohio State or Oregon are not top 10 teams but I suppose history will have to repeat itself a 100 times before the media notes this.

ND is not going to the ACC for football. They will be ACC for everything else just not football. They did however finagle another ND deal that allows them to play the ACC champ in the Orange Bowl every year they are eligible.

Since they will be continuing their weak schedule traditions by adding 5 games against ACC opponents, becoming eligible shouldn't be a problem.

A lot has to do with the fact that SEC teams play each other in the toughest conference in the country, and that prepares them for big games most of the time. Alabama just proved the point, and Notre dame, just proved how really messed up this BCS rating system is.
If there were going to be a really legitimate play off season, of at least 8 teams, the cream would still rise to the top, even though it should be easier now, to keep SEC teams out of the mix.
The SEC is just enjoying our rise to the top, and the superiority of the conference, much like the big 10, and what used to be the SW conference enjoyed in their era of superiority. The SEC will be in the thick of things for the foreseeable, so there will be plenty of chances for a repeat in the future, but right now, the SEC is just superior to the rest of the football conferences out there. Alabama is far superior to teams like Notre Dame, because they have a great coach, and play in a great, tough conference. Just think of how much this further helped their recruiting for the coming years.

Now, truth be told, and if someone did an honest evaluation, Notre Dame, had it been a member of the SEC, would be about the 5th best team in the conference. Alabama, UGA, S.C., and Texas A&M would have beaten them on the field. Notre Dame is scheduled to go to the ACC for football in 2014, so that should assure them of a Orange Bowl game, each year, as they will be superior to the teams in that conference almost every year. People can say all they want about the SEC, but they play a tough schedule every year, because they play each other, so they are prepared for the big game, and as Alabama proved, they know how to win it. All things are cyclical in college football, or so the pundits say, but I don't think the SEC is near the top of it's continued dominance of college football yet. Maybe this 4 team playoff system will do what other college teams can't do, and that is keep the SEC out of the big games somehow.
