Considering your ignorance overall, I’m not surprised to find you completely ignorant as to the success of the SEC in a variety of sports. My family in Tuscaloosa attends softball, baseball, basketball, and gymnastics competitions, as well as football games.

Academically, Florida, Georgia, and Texas A&M rank quite close to Wisconsin. Alabama is also a fine institution. Missouri is the oldest and best school of journalism in the world. The real test of an education is what the graduates choose to do with their lives. I try to make positive use of my education. You spend whatever education you may have trying to denigrate people you don’t know and stereotype entire regions as ignorant because your team has been unsuccessful. How sad.

The academic discussion has become ridiculous. Alabama now graduates around 70 percent of its football players and 100 percent of its athletes in several other programs. It’s not Harvard–but neither is Wisconsin. However, it offers a fine state-sponsored education. You’re just a silly fool who can’t handle SEC football dominance so you come on a blog and act like … a silly fool. Sad, really.

“XYZ has these ratings of academic institutions” would suffice.

Terry Bradshaw could not get into LSU and went to LaTech, which has an excellent engineering school, better than LSU’s. I suspect Brett Favre ended up at SouMiss for the same reason.

A better comparison would be to compare SEC teams to NFL teams. Neither really have to go to school and both get paid. One just happens to get paid over the table and the other under. Remember those SEC players that “graduated” but yet couldn’t read? Of course you don’t. My Packers would CRUSH your Bama boys. Oh, other than college football, what does Alabama really have to offer?

In all seriousness, how does one rank an academic institution? Many of the large state universities with open enrollment have some excellent, top-grade departments. OTOH, about half or so of the freshman class are failed and sent home.

Rankings end up being very subjective, football teams and universities.

I was insinuating that and now I am stating it. I think part of Bama’s problem was not really understanding what they were dealing with in A&M. If Texas A&M beats them again, perhaps next year, then I will change my toon and own up to it. As far as I’m concerned, Bama can impose thier will on whoever they want in college football. You still have to play the game, but I’m confident that it will not be a repeat by the Aggies. Texas A&M is a very good team, I still believe the Irish are a good team, but Bama is on another level with those recruits and that head coach.

This whole list is a joke. There’s no way ND or OSU should be anywhere in the top 5. ND shouldn’t even be in the top 10 after that performance. I’ll agree that Oregon was impressive, and I’d go more like this:

Florida is ranked 9th. Fair enough. Too high in my opinion, but that’s another argument for another day.

TWO teams ahead of us are teams WE BEAT (Texas A&M and South Carolina). Easy to argue that A&M deserves to be ranked higher even though we beat them. When we beat them, it was their first game of the season (remember, their season opener got “stormed out”). Manziel hadn’t come into his own yet. Play the game later in the season and it could easily have a different outcome.

HOWEVER…

We beat South Carolina by THIRTY-THREE FREAKING POINTS!!! The final was 44-11, and trust me, it wasn’t THAT close. We end the season with the SAME RECORD (11-2), but they win their bowl game, we lose ours, and THAT gets them ranked higher? Who are the idiots that rank these teams?

BTW, #rsmeans, if you think Oregon is no better than the EIGHTH best team in America, you don’t watch much football, do you?

Man I hate to agree with you, but I think my Buckeyes would have gotten demolished, I believe they would have run the ball better, but I doubt for anything game-changing. We are a team still in transition and one that still doesn’t have that “it” factor. I strongy believe Alabama would roll any team in the top-10 (even A&M, they’re still big12 to me, beat Bama twice and I’ll change my toon) if they really “wanted” to, Saban has built a monster.

That said, perhaps we can look forward to the day when college football go to playoff seeds. Rankings are bogus, especially by stupid media types.

OSU would have looked worse than ND in that game. Bucks are on the rise… but not #3… no more than ND was ever really #1.

Should the teams’ rankings reflect how good they were at the end of the season or for their seasons as a whole? Clearly, the Aggies were much better at the end of November than they were two months earlier.
