Maryland’s QB woes continue as Devin Burns transfers

Maryland had the worst possible luck at quarterback in 2012 with four signal callers going down with injuries and Danny O’Brien transferring last February.

2013 is not beginning on a much better foot (or knee, as the case may be) for the Terps and coach Randy Edsall. Per a university athletic official, quarterback Devin Burns will transfer from the program. Where Burns will go has not yet been made official. He finished the season with just four passing attempts for 47 yards and 70 yards rushing.

Burns stepped in as the Terps’ quarterback in October as a converted wide receiver after a pair of ACL tears sidelined C.J. Brown and Perry Hills. However, Burns sustained a Lisfranc injury during a game against North Carolina State and was also knocked out for the year. Caleb Rowe, Burns’ replacement, later suffered a torn ACL, becoming the fourth Terps QB to go down with an injury this season.

Freshman linebacker Shawn Petty acted as quarterback the rest of the year. But with the Terps looking to get healthy at QB this offseason, chances are Burns was going to be shuffled back into the depth chart.
