ND ranked as #3 is far too generous. They are ahead of Texas A&M, Georgia, and South Carolina. Sorry, but I can't see that at all.
If Alabama is so dominant, then how come a new SEC
team,(not Big 12) Texas A&M beat Bama @ home?

No, there are new blood rivalries developing, A&M is SEC worthy, and like their school song says, Goodbye to Texas University. A&M left the Big 12 to grow up and to make it's OWN future.

Tell me how the co champions of the Big 12 did in their bowl games?

The SEC has 7 teams in the top 20, 5 in the top 10, even Vanderbilt is ranked. Now perhaps you can see why the SEC is very proud of it's conference and it's member schools.

You see where the SEC chant comes from.

xtremesportsmaniac,

Saban was a very accomplished guy before taking the Bama job.

He took MSU from sanctions and revived that program. He revived LSU and got them a title. Then he revived Bama. Traditions or not, he is a turn around artist.

That being said, you cannot turn water into wine. You have to have the requisite commitment from the administration and boosters....$$$$ are needed for top shelf facilities and coaches so that you can attract top shelf talent.

Even if you took Bama's wins out of the SEC, the SEC still would would be dominant in the BCS era.

Yes, they are historically dominant, but this year's team was likely the weakest of their 3 championship teams. A&M beat them at home and should be better next year. The Gators were rebuilding, UGA will still be strong, ditto for USCar...Not good news for the rest of football;)

Remember, last year they won the title, but didn't win the WEST. LSU would have easily destroyed any other non SEC team last year as well. This isn't like USC destroying a weak conference, which makes Bama's run all that more impressive. Had it not been for the 08 Gators, you are probably looking at 4/5 titles.

Gator prof,
I agree with you that is has been a great run by the SEC even though I have not always agreed with the match ups the SEC has always came to play.

I don't think its easy to go undefeated in any conference , not just the SEC. Between rivalries and road games its not an easy task.

My opinion is just that we have gone from SEC dominance in the game and moved towards Alabama dominance.

And I agree with you Saban is also the best I have ever seen. Rather then go to the NFL I would love to see this guy go to a school with no football history like Duke and see what he could do.

xtremesportsmaniac,

Yes, Bama is dominating with 3 out of the last 4. That being said, the SEC has won the last 7. Please also note that Bama still losses from time to time in the SEC given the conference strength.

Go and look at the record for BCS title games, 9-1. The one loss was LSU to Bama. Every other conference has a .500 or less record. Five SEC teams have won titles.

It is an amazing run by a single team and an amazing run by a conference.

Saban is simply the best college coach that I have ever seen.

The SEC is the best conference. But, the only team worth mentioning as truly Elite is Alabama because they are on a completely different level. LSU, Florida, Georgia, A&M and Carolina are good teams but are not world beaters like Alabama.
________________

This SEC jealousy has reached a new level. At least LSU and Georgia played Bama to a 4 point game and A&M beat Alabama so not sure the point of your post.

...and what team from another conference would you classify as elite?

Stanford? Uh, they lost to Notre Dame
Oregon? Uh, they lost to Stanford
Any Big Ten school? Please no

Why do teams with pathetic graduation rates have to play schools that care about graduation rates…I m not picking on any conference, or bragging one up.
I just think if your graduation rate is lower then 70% there is a problem…and that school should be banned from post season play.
Why should schools that inforce the classroom part of College have to go up against schools that do not
_________________
You're obviously, a Notre Dame fan. You lost to a team that has a 75% graduation rate. No, that's not as good as ND but good enough to meet the criteria that you established. If all you ND fans want to beat your chest about graduation rates, go play in the Ivy League; it seems like the competition in football may suit you better there anyway.

I think it is more about Alabama's dominance than SEC dominance. They have won 3-4 of the last 4 Championships and have even whooped and SEC team in one of the games. The year they didn't win the Championship shouldn't have counted any because Cam should have been ineligible.

It's interesting for all the talk about how other conferences offenses wouldn't work in the SEC because the defenses are so good a Big 12 team with a Freshman QB set a record for offense in the SEC in their first year. By the way I do agree the SEC plays the best defense UF's defense was incredible this year along with Bama.

SEC fans I understand your conference loyalty but Alabama is dominating you the same way they are dominating everyone else.

Congrats to Bama and their fans your team is clearly the class of college football right now and it's not even close.

It is what was posted here on CFT by southernpatriots, myself, and others from before the season began and Pac-12, Big 12, Big 10, and Irish fans all said this would be the year the SEC hegemony would be broken on the BCS NC. Not going to happen, I posted, as did many others.

Now that it is reality, the drum beat will start up again. It will be USC again or Notre Dame again or Stanford again or somebody, anybody, some team, any team, for the anti-SEC posters.

There are legitimate reasons, not a reason, but reasonS, that SEC teams perform so well against the best of other conferences and especially well in the NCG. But that is another story for another day. That the SEC is better, with better competition week in and week out is undisputed.

Congratulations to Alabama again, and to all the SEC teams who showcased themselves so well. Next event, Recruiting, signing day, Spring practices and games and another season of the greatest entertainment in the world--college football!

Huh! I know coaches go by records too, but it seemed fairly obvious to me that the Aggies, who beat Alabama at home, Oregon and Stanford all had convincing bowl wins, had earned spots 2, 3, and 4 in some order. OK, Georgia belongs in the mix, but please, spare me the Notre Dame bandwagon after the beating they took. Did anybody else watch the Stanford-Notre Dame game in South Bend? Must have, ND's on national television every week.
