I just noticed your last comment regarding them getting a degree. I respectfully disagree. These guys, by and large, aren’t going to make in 10 years what they would in 1 in the NFL making the league minimum. For the most part, the degrees they are “working” on are completely worthless in the real world. Hell, when close to half of most 4-year degrees by non-athletes are close to worthless right now, there is no way I’d recommend anyone with a good chance of getting drafted stay in school. School will always be there if they get injured and can’t play.

3-2 across that stretch would be remarkable!!

Remember, NFL rules mandate you have to be THREE YEARS out of high school to be draft eligible. If I’m a stud high schooler, I want to PLAY at least two of those three years… in a high visibility program. LSU obviously qualifies.

Mingo, Montgomery and Reid will go in the 1st round

Logan and Minter will go late 1st-early 2nd

Simon will go 2nd

As already stated, Ford and Ware would probably have actually worsened their draft stock by coming back, Ware especially, as he would get almost no playing time with a healthy Alfred Blue added back in with Hill and Hilliard.

Wing was expected to leave as well, and his backup will be just as good as he was.

The only one that could have gone either way is Faulk. If he had been healthy all year he would have been a 1st round pick, but his injury left open the possibility that he would return. I’m guessing he’s concerned about getting hurt again.

You make valid points. The only head scratcher on the list is Chris Faulk, who will be a late round pick due to the risk that he may not be fully recovered. But I can’t really blame him because the window may close on his NFL opportunity if he returns and has another injury.

Mingo, Montgomery, Minter, Logan, Reid, and Simon are projected to be taken in the first or second round; the running backs would be no better than third string behind Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue and I don’t even count a punter even though his backup averaged 45 yds.

There has been zero drop-off in LSU’s recruiting and in some cases the early departures have opened the door for some highly touted prospects to look differently at LSU as they recognize the opportunity to get on the field sooner. It also enhances LSU’s reputation for getting players to the NFL.

The players I know who are exiting early for the NFL feel they need money for their families and themselves. I would have recommended they stay another season, but I don’t get a say. I wish them well and every success.

New recruits coming in daily and they all will get the guarantee that they will see playing time in the game if they obey the team rules, learn the plays and progress in their position in practice.

Players leaving early is no sign of disenchantment with the coaching staff, or anything else. It’s a natural progression to be expected when you recruit elite athletes.

My problem with this exodus is more along the lines of this: how many of these players declaring early will actually have a “career” in the NFL? Secondarily, who the heck is advising these kids to leave early? Does anyone really believe ALL of these kids (from just ONE school) will be 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd round picks?

I’ve experienced this first-hand as being a close family friend and advisor to a very highly recruited basketball player. I was basically detached from the family eventually because I refused to toe the proverbial “party line”. People tell these athletes exactly what they want to hear, instead of telling them what’s actually in their best interest to hear. All the hangers-on see NFL dollar signs, instead of what’s in the athlete’s LONG-TERM best interest.

Everyone says staying in college is one blown knee from forfeiting a pro contract. Got news for you: a blown knee at the NFL level without a college education, and your options are reduced to saying “paper or plastic?” for a living. Get your degree.

Before Saban LSU was a second tier team in the SEC. They are obviously are finished as an elite team and shall lose 4 or 5 games next year and be a non factor in the SEC. TAM will beat them unmericefully in Death Valley and Alabama will destroy them in Tuscaloosa. They will also lose to Florida and UGA and maybe Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi.

Basically 2 plays is about right, and we’d have the trophy this year instead of Alabama. The one and only coach that has a winning record against Miles is Saban, and it’s by exactly one win, and that last one was solely at the foot of….Chavis. Don’t misunderstand, I love Chavis and don’t ever want him to leave, but these people that act as if Les sucks are just beyond retarded. First it was “well he won a championship with Nick’s talent” (let’s forget that the EXACT SAME ARGUMENT could have been said of Nick while at LSU – he won with DiNardo’s talent). Sorry, but I was here, Nick is a far better coach now than he was then, as our team often underperformed and needed LOTS of help the one year we did win it under his coaching (anyone remember the Kentucky game that year? I do).

Les actually took Nick’s team and made it better in one year, just as he did in Oklahoma. He’s a bit quirky and unconventional, but setting aside the Great Saban (now), tell me another coach that would be better? Dude from Oregon? That Les beat the hell out of on a neutral site and has yet to actually win anything? Dude from Oklahoma, that hasn’t won squat in years? Dude from Texas, that is at the end of his career and hasn’t also done shit facing inferior scheduling in years?
