For the second time today, an FBS program received some welcome if not surprising news on the NFL early-entry front.
At a press conference Wednesday evening, All-American Taylor Lewan (no relation) stunned many -- including his own father to some degree -- by announcing that he will be returning to Michigan for his senior season. According to the offensive lineman, though, the decision was a no-brainer.
“There was really no doubt in my mind that I had to be back at The University of Michigan,” said Lewan, who informed his teammates of the decision less than a half hour before meeting with the media. “I always said I would evaluate things and make the best decision for me, and that’s exactly what I did.”
Lewan added that a conversation with former UM All-American Jake Long helped in his decision. Long faced a similar decision as Lewan and, after staying for his senior season, was selected No. 1 overall in the 2008 NFL draft.
Both literally and figuratively, the news is huge for a Wolverines squad looking to bounce back from a five-loss season.
Lewan was a first-team All-Big Ten performer and his name littered several postseason All-American lists. He was projected to be a potential top-ten pick in the April draft.
