Houston announces that DC, DE coach will not return

After the first game of the year, a 30-13 loss to new FBS member Texas State, Houston offensive coordinator Mike Nesbitt “resigned” from his position.

After his first year as the Cougars’ defensive coordinator, Jamie Bryant is leaving in a similar fashion. Per a release from the university, it was announced that Bryant and defensive ends coach Carlton Hall will not return for the 2013 season. Bryant and Hall were assistants under current Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and coached linebackers and defensive line, respectively.

Both were also retained by new Cougars coach Tony Levine with Bryant being promoted to DC and Hall moving from D-line to defensive ends.

Houston ranked 115th in total defense in 2012 and 111th in points allowed per game (36).

No replacements have been named as of yet.
