Meyer has his pickings in Ohio because OSU is the only place to play big time football in the entire state unlike Michigan, Florida, Texas etc.

Urban Meyer is building a monster in Columbus right now starting with a destroyer type defense! It is going to be fun watching what happens over the next few years. The Buckeye defense is going to be amazingly good quite quickly!!!

HALF of their schedule is cupcakes, the other half has a few tough games but nothing that strikes fear in a coaching staffs hearts. They will get huge hype and march to a BCS bowl only to get housed by an SEC team, putting a deserved end to the flawed BCS system.

He did know how to advance in the SEC…But Meyer couldn’t handle the heat in the SEC kitchen… He definitely tore it up… but ultimately it was too much for him to stomach. Now he will rule the 3 yards and a cloud of dust conf. and will only need to be weary of one game against the heavyweights of the SEC.

One thing Coach Meyer knows that Brian Kelly et al apparently didn’t know is that whipping up on the likes of Purdue and Michigan* is not necessarily the way to win a national title.

*The Michigan of the last few years, not the one of the roughly 40 before that.

You have to give the man credit. He’s one of the few outside the SEC who knows what it takes to win there, including what it takes to beat Alabama.

This class of high school seniors were in the 5th grade the last time they saw a non-SEC team (Texas) win a national championship. A few more years and there will be an entire generation of kids that only know SEC dominance. A few more years of that is likely… and there will be an entire generation of kids that only know SEC dominance!!

I would love to see a Bama vs OSU title game. Personally, I think Meyer will run the B1G for a while. Mainly because Ohio has the best recruiting backyard in the league. Even though Bama is the darlings right now, we have a long way to go to get to another title game. The secondary its going to need a lot of work. Also, teams like LSU, A&M, UF, USCe, & UGA will all be much better. On the contrary, the B1G may be a one team league for a while.

Irishdodger- I liked what coach Kelly said after the game (and at halftime, really shows he was still calm, that will pay off). He said the Irish now knows what it will take to win it all. You have to play top tier teams just to truly rate your own team. ND has a good coach and is recruiting southern speed players, that’s a winning combo. Best of luck going forward.

If OSU can’t go unbeaten with that schedule, they’ll have bigger problems. They will be highly favored in all of them and other than maybe Northwestern and UM, could play average ball and win.

I’m not a Tide fan, but the reason that big chicken left the SEC, is b/c he KNEW that it wouldn’t be easy to win the SEC East, and IMPOSSIBLE to win the SEC Championship with Saban there. It also bothered him to lose to coaches that aren’t very good coaches, like LSU’s Miles. He figured he’d go to where he could have an easy road to the BCS Championship year in and year out. Unless he can get thru the jaugernaut of Penn St., Michigan, Michigan St., Nebraska & Wisconsin.

Meyer saw first hand how a team similar to his would have done vs Bama. Right now there’s Bama & everyone else. ND was a year or two ahead of schedule & it showed as they lacked the talent, depth & experience to compete with Saban. In hindsight, losing a game may have done them so good as they’d been matched up w/ a comparable opponent like KSU, Oregon or Florida. Don’t get me wrong, once Urban gets his players & system in there, he’ll compete.

Meyer is one of a handful of coaches who can gameplan and make gameday decisions at the same level as Saban. Give him 2-3 years of his recruits and he can compete for NC. And with easier schedule he will soon be poised for a NC
