I admit that he needs to cool it with that stuff though. He’s the Heisman trophy winner and he is representing Texas A&M but lets be honest, he’s being a 20 year old kid that has made it famous.

But I have to say…. I am REALLY starting to worry about how the pressure is going to affect him next year. The screws are going to be getting tighter every week. Hopefully being back in school and in football will give him the structure he needs to focus. Because, a national title is within reach for the first time in 30+ years for A&M, lets not lose sight of that.

I personally think you can chalk all of the foregoing up to youthful indiscretions, and not a big deal. But the media should quit playing favorites. Manziel has Brett Favre type party rep at A&M, but of course, the media will downplay it and slam other players they don’t like for whatever reason…

Bob Stoops should keep his loose cannon brother away from microphones, or maybe AD Joe Castiglione should take that step.

Although I agree with the gist of your post – it has been a longtime since “Big Game Bob” actually won a big game – it was with John Blake’s players, not Jeff Blake. I think Jeff Blake was still Cincinnati’s QB at the time….

The problem for Bob Stoops is that his d-bag-ish persona was eclipsed while Les Miles was in Stillwater – let’s face it, next to Miles and some of his ridiculous statements, Stoops came off as normal.

“If Bob Stoops stops hiring relatives who can’t win as head coaches and make his former QBs with no qualification to be the OC, he’ll be pretty good.”

Honestly, not sure why Bob Stoops is the highest paid employee in the state of Oklahoma. Been a LONG time he won a National Championship and that was with Jeff Blake’s players.

Hell of a recruiter for sure, but he will never be on the “Mount Rushmore” of College Football Coaches the way his teams usually find a way to choke in big games. Discipline seems to always be an issue and has been for awhile (re: Rhett Bomar to this year’s issues)

Bowl loses for Stoops is nothing new (to include losing badly), but this year he had a QB with over 50 starts and still could put together a game plan to do anything more than hold the ball and kick FGs while A&M was scoring TDs.

Thanks! Height and size are an asset to an NFL QB–and they’ve worked well for my Steelers with Roethlisberger. But plenty of big QBs have been huge busts. I think Brees is one of the truly great QBs of this era and Manziel is built a lot like him. A lot of intangibles go into making a superstar QB. Manziel is off to a great start. I’m anxious to see how his career develops.
