Ex-SMU QB one of two E. Washington players headed to draft

The FBS level isn’t the only one losing players to the professional ranks.

Eastern Washington of the Football Championship Series (FCS) announced earlier this week that quarterback Kyle Padron and wide receiver Brandon Kaufman had decided to forego their remaining eligibility to declare early for the NFL draft.

Padron decided to transfer from SMU in January of last year, one year after setting the school’s single-season mark for passing yards. He officially signed with Eastern Washington in May and ultimately split time at quarterback during what turned out to be his lone season at the school.

Along with Tennessee’s Tyler Bray, Padron is the only underclassman player at his position to declare for the draft.

The 6-5, 210-pound Kaufman set an FCS record with 1,850 yards receiving on his 93 receptions. He also caught 16 touchdown passes.
