Aaron Colvin opts for Sooners over NFL

After losing three players to early entry into the NFL draft, Oklahoma has finally come out on the winning side of a decision.

In a somewhat surprising move, Aaron Colvin announced Monday that he’s returning to the Sooners for his senior season. In a statement, the cornerback cited “unfinished business” in Norman as a reason for his return.

“I still have unfinished business at Oklahoma,” Colvin said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to be back on the field with my teammates in 2013. There are team and individual goals that I’d still like to accomplish at OU.”

Colvin has started 26 of the 39 games in which he’s played, including 25 the past two seasons. 13 of those starts came at safety in 2011 before he moved to corner this year.

Following the 2012 season, Colvin, a three-star member of OU’s 2010 recruiting class, was a first-team All-Big 12 performer.

“I am pleased that Aaron has come to this decision and I believe it’s the right one for him,” head coach Bob Stoops said. “I believe he has an opportunity to become one of the premier defensive players in the Big 12 and in the country. Hopefully, he will continue to work hard to reach that potential and help us achieve our team’s goals.”
