When we saw Johnny, on T.V.-inthemiddleofagame-throw his arms back on his chest and screem at the opposing team & fans...we all knew this boy had mental problems to accompany his football bravado.
In the next 12 months, we will see the "maturation" of a juvenile mind in a man's body.
But, it's what we all want, isn't it?

You have to be 21 to gamble in any casino I have ever been in. Did he illegally win all that money. Where is the investigation ?

In Oklahoma, all you have to be is 18. The NCAA already stated as long as he was gambling at the casino tables and slot fine, there was no evidence of betting on sports.

This is doesn't help our cause of attracting top-flight student/athletes to Carolina. To his credit, at least Stephen Garcia graduated and is straightening out his act. He has talent albeit much of it wasted due to his own actions. But I think it better to move on and focus on what we've accomplished the past two seasons. Stephen Garcia has been gone for three years now....

Well, you're right about me missing the immediate aftermath of the LSU game. I was probably in a heap on the floor LOL

It's stressful playing for a big-time program no matter who's coaching. Nick's an intense guy--like most coaches at this level--and I always liken his sideline wigouts to watching a rabid chiuaua on crack. When games are nail-bitingly close like that, I get extremely quiet and only cry when we win ... so they probably were tears of joy or relief. Just because folks cry doesn't mean they aren't enjoying themselves in some bizarre way, and it certainly doesn't mean they don't know it's only a game.

Huh? A.J. McCarron was sure doing a lot of high-fiveing and grinning after the championship game. I've never seen any Bama players crying on the sidelines, and they're sure a happy bunch when you see them around town.

As for Johnny Football, I agree with most of the posts that--except for his summer disorderly conduct arrest--the kid hasn't done anything that would concern me. But kudos to A&M for doing their best to protect him. Fame has put him in the media shark tank, and it's great that he has coaches and an athletic director who want to help him navigate those rough waters.

Good news, bad news. The good is obvious: the Heisman, the video game numbers on the field, the invitation to Letterman, the publicity, etc.

Unfortunately, a large portion of the media in this country (not ALL of them, just a LOT of them) love the notion of building someone up so they can then tear them down. The scrutiny he's going to have to now live under is going to be brutal. Every step he takes is going to be recorded on someone's cell phone or some TV camera or some still camera... all in the interest of hoping he trips up. Pretty sad when you think about it. I hope he gets good 'coaching' from his parents, advisors, etc., that genuinely have his best interests at heart, and aren't just hanging around him hoping to make a buck off of his fame.

Yeah, be4bama, talking with Saban sounds like a great idea. Then we can see him crying on the sidelines instead of high fiveing and having fun playing a game he loves! Hummm...no thanks!

My Wife and adult children ask me if you've posted anything lately. They ask me everyday so you are a hot item! And yes, rooster does its thing on PA. The Vegas spread before kick-off was 4.5 points for SC. We won by 5 (33-28) so they knew what they were talking about.

Thanks gamecocker.

Does your team really have a rooster crowing sound over the PA before every game?

I have heard that a cock is a ferocious animal... It whipped a wolverine, so it must be.

I think Spider-Man's uncle Ben said it best, "With great power comes great responsibility". I always thought that winning the Heisman meant that you were not only the best player on your team, but also that you set a perfect example of what it takes to be the best student athlete and leader that you can be on and OFF the field. Then Cam Newton won the award. Sorry couldn't help myself. That was the Alabama/Falcons fan coming out in me. Seriously though, like it or not kids look up to these football players and some even consider them role models. I just think that situations like Johnny holding up that wad of cash and alcohol should be expected when you pick a freshmen to win the Heisman. I have all the faith in the world that he will learn from his mistakes and become that shining example that I mentioned before, but more than likely there will be a few more bumps in the road along the way. It's called growing up and sometimes it's hard to do.

photos of the 20-year-old at a casino holding a bottle of Dom Perignon
Mr. Taylor, let me help you do your job. Manziel was not holding a bottle of anything at the casino. That happened at a club, with both parents present, celebrating the end of a fantastic season and the Cotton Bowl win. The club says the bottle was handed to him by someone at a neighboring table for the photo, that none of the club's staff saw him drinking at all, though he could have legally done so. Readers may argue the wisdom of his even being in a club at all, but at least give them the facts to consider first. Most would be happier if he never went out anywhere or looked the least bit happy while doing normal things like going to a basketball game.
