Look jackweed, ND is no different than any other major university playing big-time college football. You pretentious little punk, you think ND recruits only the best and brightest! No, no, no.....you want the brightest, you go Ivy League or or schools like Williams, Hobart, etc. Hell, ND may aspire to be Stanford, but it's not! ND is a private university that is overseen by a religious order: the Catholic Church. You want homoginized, you go to ND; you want diversity, you go to a public university! I know Gary Grey's background...no way he is admitted to ND with his academic background. If he has a degree, its because someone held his friggin hand in all the classes! The State of SC should be proud of him you say. Why? What did he do...go to ND? Anybody who goes to ND should be put on a pedestal? You see, that is the way you think you ignoramus. Oh, Mr. Golden F'ing Domer, you wrote the following: "You started this thread by discrediting a former and any future player who choses to go to ND...". You spelled "chooses" incorrectly. Ya dik-head.

And then we have this from one of your esteemed athletes, ND's brightes and best:

Notre Dame Star's Story a Total Farce?
Manti Te'o inspired fans by playing through the deaths of two people very close to him: his grandmother and his girlfriend. Now it turns out part of that story may have been an elaborate lie.

Today here is the conclusion many are making to your "academically superior" university:

MANTI TE'O IS TO TAWANA BRAWLEY

AS NOTRE DAME IS TO REV. AL SHARPTON!!

NOW STFU ABOUT HOW SUPERIOR YOU A-HOLES ARE!!!!

Gamecocker, your initial argument was pointing SC athletes away from ND... I was merely letting you know that Golson, who is from SC, started for a 12-0 team that made the national championship game... something your "vaunted" QB's from the lesser USC cannot stake claim to. Obviously you did not watch that game, or you would have seen that Golson was, in fact, one of the lone bright spots. Purdue, BC, and Navy are cupcakes... so what does that make East Carolina, UAB and Wofford?

Gary Gray had a rough year in 2011, his 5th year. But he had an undergrad degree by that point and was working towards a grad degree.

Also, if a player is in a 5th year at ND, they must have completed their undergraduate degree. So all 5th year players are grad student. In 2011, Chris Stewart was a 5th year starting lineman while working on his ND law degree. Smart dude, obviously.

The staff at ND certainly seems better suited to get defensive players into the NFL than the previous staffs at ND. Comparing what Spurrier has done to Weis and Willingham did is laughable because it's not even a legit conversation. So comparing the last 10-15 years before Kelly's staff took over doesn't really mean much at this point.

In regards to academics, you can cite all of the anecdotal points that you want, but ND is clearly superior to South Carolina. Nothing against SC, but it's really not even close. But the most important thing is that the players graduate (and I don't care with what degree). 69% isn't the worst, but its hardly ideal. As talented as Spurrier, if he wanted to, his graduation rate would be considerably higher.

Gamecocker, don't try to spin this on me. You started this thread by discrediting a former and any future player who choses to go to ND over SC simply because they didn't/won't make it to the NFL? It was a ridiculous comment and deserved to be disparaged.

My comments were meant to defend a student athlete who may not have achieved the on field success that would meet your standards but decided to pursue a challenge in the classroom far greater than football players at most other universities have to deal with. In that arena he walked away with not just one, but two degrees.

Players like that deserve to be commended, not insulted like you did. Football would be a much better sport if we had more players like Gary Gray. Those like him should be commended, the state of South Carolina should be proud of him, and future players looking to follow his path should be encouraged.

It has nothing to do with being elite or not, it has to do with you pulling your head out of your ass before you make stupid comments.

ND is a fine academic institution. The graduation rate for the South Carolina football team is 69% and not 55%. That grad rate is for USCw......it's people like you though who consider themselves elite but really aren't. I have friends of mine who graduated from ND who ended up as bartenders....not owners of the bar who are bartenders...just bartenders. They are regular people, good friends, who just live day to day. Their ND degrees didn't get them into the "elite class" like you. I'm a graduate of SC, house paid for, happily married 39 years, own commercial property, paid for kids college education, and semi-retired. Couldn't have accomplished this without my University of South Carolina degree. The fact is, any student who applies him or herself can obtain a fine education at any university in the US. So to conclude, a degree from ND is no better or no worse than a degree from any accredited university in this country. People like you who think they are better than everyone else make me laugh. But I do feel sorry for you.

Gamecocker, my comment was on LIFELONG decision. No matter how many DBs SC, ND, or any school for that matter sends to the NFL the vast majority of them won't ever make it to the NFL and even if they are lucky enough will not have a career long enough to avoid the real world. That being said, I assure you a degree from ND will assist these men far more than one from SC. Let's not ignore the fact that currently 45% of Gamecock players don't even graduate to begin with. The 55%? I'm sure they are all set with degrees in Leisure Studies and Recreational Fitness. You may have more DBs in the NFL, but I can also guarantee you SC has more former DBs working the drive-thru windows.

SC has placed more DB's in the pros in the past 10 years than ND in the past 20 years. You are a MORON!

Everett Golson cannot throw or run as well as the QB's at SC can. I don't think he was highly recruited by SC. ND's success this season was due to their defense, not their offense. He's still young...and he sure as hell did not distinguish himself in the NC game now did he......against Navy, Purdue, BC, and some of the other cupcakes, he did well for a freshman....

You mean someone like Everett Golson? Yeah, that hasn't really worked out well for him yet, has it?

Gamecocker, you are absolutely right. It is a much better lifelong decision to go to South Carolina than Notre Dame.

Too bad for this young man. Whatever happened to Gary Grey? Is his eligibility exhausted? I don't recall seeing him on the field this year. If I'm not mistaken I think one of his relatives made his college decision for him. First he selected South Carolina...then I think he made a mistake and wrote down South Bend. I wonder if they coached him up at ND so he could make some money in the pros? He never really stood out at ND even though he was a 4 or 5 star out of HS. Maybe he decided to attend grad school at ND...if one of you ND fans know of his next stop, many of us would like to know.....so that the NEXT SC high school standout won't make the same error in judgment.
