I think that Kelly thought he could weather the storm, but maybe he got back to Eugene and either had a change of heart or realized the NCAA knew more then he thought they knew.

Either way, as long as NIKE continues to dump money into this program it will continue to thrive.

I agree that the northwest has to be coaching centric because top area recruits often get picked off nationwide, and pulling recruits to play so far from home a bit difficult. The NCAA investigation stems from the “steering” of a Texas recruit who subsequently returned home to play. Raw speed with superior position coaching has served them well, and I really doubt Kelly needs to take them to the NFL, where players have a better grounding in technique and fundamentals.

Oregon will be fine as long as Phil Knight is there supporting the program. If they hire their OC, they won’t skip a beat. It all depends on how significant the looming sanctions are. Hopefully, for Ducks fans, Kelly leaving now doesn’t mean those sanctions are much more significant than Chip initially thought they’d be.

Well Chip Kelly was a very detailed innovative coach but with or without him Oregon will remain along with Stanford as one of the two best teams in the lowly PAC 12. So in reality Oregon is Ok. With or without Kelly they were never going to win a NC but the teams in the PAC 12 are so poor they can still win 10 games or more each year.

Also, I realize not on the level of Oregon, Rutgers was able to keep all but one from a top 25 recruiting class after Schiano left. They also promoted from within with Kyle Flood.

Is there a reason Helfrich wouldn’t go with Kelly to the NFL? I guess the question then is, what would you rather be, a head coach in college, or an OC at the NFL level? Either way, this is a blow to the Ducks faithful. I’m an SEC guy, but man, I sure did enjoy watching Oregon play these last few years. I still think the national championship game this year would have been Alabama v. Oregon if we had the playoffs already in place. Ahh, dare to dream…

Texas schools have already poached a few Oregon recruits, Manziel and Seastrunk. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Aggies snipe some of those crazy speed guys that the Ducks always get.
