Following up on what’s been reported for the past several days, Virginia Tech has announced that former Auburn and Temple offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler will take over those same duties with the Hokies.
Additionally, Jeff Grimes and Aaron Moorehead will take over offensive line and wide receivers, respectively. Former Virginia Tech OC Bryan Stinespring will coach tight ends.
The departing coaches from Frank Beamer‘s staff are Curt Newsome (O-line), Mike O’Cain (QBs) and Kevin Sherman (WRs).
The Hokies finished with a 7-6 record in 2012, a disappointing effort with an offensive showing that was painful to watch. Virginia Tech finished 81st in the country in both total offense (376.7 ypg) and scoring (25.08 ppg). The Russell Athletic Bowl win over Rutgers was a defensive battle (if you want to call it that) with Tech winning 13-10.
Likewise, Auburn struggled greatly on offense this past year under Loeffler, finishing among the worst scoring teams in college football.
