After losing its offensive coordinator to the NFL over the weekend, it appears Miami is looking to an ACC and in-state rival to fill a rather significant hole in Al Golden‘s coaching staff.
Citing multiple sources close to James Coley, the Miami Herald is reporting that the Hurricanes have offered the offensive coordinator job to Florida State’s current coordinator. The Herald writes that Coley “is now weighing the decision whether to take it or not.”
While Coley serves as the Seminoles’ coordinator, he doesn’t handle play-calling on game day; those duties still fall on head coach Jimbo Fisher, who doesn’t appear inclined to give up those responsibilities at any point in the foreseeable future.
Along with play-calling duties were he to take the job at UM, Coley would be in line for a bump in pay from $390,000 to somewhere in the neighborhood of $500,000. The ability to call plays, however, may be a greater incentive than a financial one.
Coley, who turned down the opportunity to join former FSU defensive coordinator Mark Stoops‘ on his first Kentucky staff, just completed his fifth season with the Seminoles. Earlier this month, he added the title of quarterbacks coach.
Jedd Fisch‘s departure for the same job with the Jacksonville Jaguars created Miami’s current vacancy.
