It’s official: Purdue hires Shoop as OC

Purdue has made the hiring of John Shoop official one day after reports surfaced about the move. The school confirmed that Shoop will serve as the Boilermakers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in a release on Friday.

“Coach Shoop is a great guy and a smart coach that understands the team culture we’re building at Purdue,” coach Darrell Hazell said in a statement. “He has a ton of experience at the highest levels of football, having served as an offensive coordinator in both the NFL and college. I love what his knowledge and expertise brings to Purdue, but I really value his notion of family and team-building that will play a vital role for us.”

Shoop previously served as North Carolina’s offensive coordinator from 2007-11, but did not coach this past season.

Hazell still needs two more assistants to complete his coaching staff: defensive line and tight ends/special teams coordinator.
