I love how afraid everyone is about Urban Meyer… I would be too, he just went undefeated during a “rebuilding” year! Why would you not want to play college football at OSU the next 4 or 5 years… especially compared to Oregon?

These recruits were wooed to Oregon by Chip Kelly, even though Kelly knew he was considering a jump to the NFL…

…kind of hard to blame recruits for looking around to determine what might be best for their future.

Ohio State has so much to offer these athletes… preparing them for the future, helping them to fulfill their dreams.

Not a thing wrong with these Oregon recruits looking around after Chip Kelly ran out on them…not a thing wrong with Ohio State pursuing them, either.

Let Urban hunt all he wants, with Oregon’s #2 ranking, it should hold steady with its extremely high reputation. It’s a solid-program for the next 2 years. Urban will be lucky if he gets one out of the four or five from Oregon. Using assistant coaches for recruiting – doesn’t work. As for Lane Kiffin, good luck!! Lane has nothing to boast in except for a lot of spoiled kids who didn’t even want to be at and play to win – their bowl game. So, who would want to go there.
As for SEC – they won’t be king this year, let’s hope that Miles (who will be one of the weaker teams this year) picks up a few freshmen that know how to score more than 20 pts/game. 2012 was a disaster year on offense for this team.

Meyer is just doing his job. He its paid a very large sum, and if I was an OSU fan I would expect him to earn it. If your afraid of competition, college football may not be for you.

There’s nothing at all “unethical” about recruiting somebody verbally committed to another school right up until they sign their LOI. If the recruit isn’t interested, they won’t pick up the phone when another coach calls.

Partially correct. He will be fine during the regular season playing those powerhouse teams such as the Cleveland School for the Blind. When bowl season comes along and he has to face a team he knows he might not be able to beat, the heart problems will re-emerge.

I’m an Urban Meyer fan, but I have a problem with this (it’s expected from Kiffin, so I won’t comment about him). Once a recruit verbally commits, I thought the gentlemen’s agreement was that no one else tries to recruit them away unless, a) NCAA sanctions are coming, or b) the athlete de-commits and re-opens the recruiting process. I think unless he’s approached, Urban needs to back off. How would he like it if certain SEC schools decided to go after his verbal commits?

As a longtime Gator fan you have to know how this works.

It’s OK to poach recruits because nothing is legal till the John Hancock is on the line that is dotted on the National Letter of Intent. But go after one of their recruits (Meyer or Kiffin) and you are lower than a snake’s belly in a ditch.

Kiffin isn’t very good at it (too stupid and after all he is a tool) but Meyer is a master of the misdirection. He will talk about integrity and honor and doing things the right way (I only want the top 1% of the top 1% ; ) but in the end the ends does justify the means. In the end whatever gets Urban or Kitten what they want is fine. Dog eat dog.

BTW, nothing they are doing is breaking the rules but high profile guys like Meyer and Kiffin who disregard integrity make it almost impossible for other coaches to behave in a civilized manner because in the end their job depends on getting talent.

I really like Florida’s current coach Will Muschamp but he has two flips himself (LB Alex Anzalone from Notre Dame and WR Demarcus Robinson from Clemson) but at least he was recruiting both from the start. He had a relationship with both players. It’s different, to me at least, when the sharks start circling a program and it’s recruits only because their coach left.

Oregon’s recruiting classes are ALWAYS mediocre, this year’s is par for the course, Kelly NEVER had a top ten class, and they haven’t had a draft pick in the top 100 picks in three years (they might have ONE this year in Jordan). The pull of Nike money is a complete myth… Kelly and Oregon finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 10th in the country the last four years with kids NO one else in the top 25 programs wanted, with maybe five exceptions, total. Kelly and Oregon do/did more with less talent than any program in the country, maybe ever.

Why would his eyes be out West? Does he have connections to USC, because out side of them, Ohio State has a “tad” better tradition than any of the rest, atleast in CFB. Also, come, let the Ducks try to take our recruits, its all fair game until they sign the proper paperwork. Its just business, baby huey(s) (see what I did there?), don’t take it so personal.
