Getty ImagesHey, it’s an offseason Saturday. And it’s Steve Spurrier doing Steve Spurrier things. In this instance, those “Spurrier things” involved handing two reporters an envelope containing a $100 bill for answering a trivia question correctly.
Spurrier was meeting reporters today to talk about the Gamecocks’ new defensive line coach, Deke Adams (Spurrier also took a nice parting shot at former D-line coach Brad Lawing, who left for Florida). That’s when Spurrier asked those in attendance if they could name all the college football teams with 11 wins in each of the past two seasons. South Carolina, obviously, was one, along with Alabama, Oregon and Stanford.
Two reporters got the question right, so Spurrier reached into his coat pocket and pulled out two envelopes containing $100 bills and handed it to them before walking away. The two reporters looked inside to find a $100 bill.
Random, but alright then.

Nothing new about SS handing out envelopes with cash. But it’s notable that he didn’t hand the envelope to a recruit or his parents.
He is buying them off. Lol
I had a retired Army Sergeant Major give me and a few other Army buddies $100 each when we were traveling from duty station to our next assignment. He walked up to us in an airport and said it was the only way he could think of to say thanks.
Even if it be $100.00 it pays to be smart.
You can count on the Ole Ball Coach to do things a little differently, keeping us entertained. ha!
How is it ethical that these journos keep the cash?
@mtflsmitty please enlighten me on who Spurrier has given money to. Please name names and dates. Also since he has done this please tell me when he was punished by the NCAA for these infractions. If you can’t then please keep your idiotic thoughts to yourself.
Just another stupid, jealous paper Big 10 fan to suggest the OBC EVER handed out cash to a recruit. Never has happened. What a moron
@florida, I’m a BIG10 fan but get a kickout of the OBC. Shows what a great coach he is by turning around the Cocks. Always puts a smile on the face and never takes himself too serious.
Has any coach ever been caught actually handing money to players? I feel like it’s always done through benefits and third parties unless the coach was really stupid or ballsy. Like when all those South Carolina players were caught using that hotel for free two years ago, I am sure Spurrier wasn’t putting those rooms under his name. Although I guess it didn’t keep the Gamecocks from getting penalized in the amount of scholarships they were allowed to give out…

Their eligibility expired years ago, #surly.
The USC players didn’t stay in the Hotel for free! They stayed at a discounted rate, the same price that the other students paid! The only problem was that the Hotel was a member of the Gamecock Club. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a problem!
Mtflsmitty — that was hilarious!!
