APOne of Mark Helfrich‘s first moves as Oregon’s new head coach is dismissing a player, apparently.
The university sent out a release on Saturday announcing that Helfrich has booted redshirt sophomore defensive back James Scales for — what else? — an unspecified violation of team rules.
Scales played sparingly in 2011 and 2012, recording six tackles in both years. He probably wouldn’t have played a lot in 2013 either as the Ducks are set in the secondary with the likes of Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Avery Patterson, who should be back after sustaining a torn ACL late in the season.
The kid was seen around campus wearing Adidas gear instead of Nike. You don’t cross Uncle Phil Knight when he bankrolls the entire Oregon program and players.
