Maybe you tools should read the article:

As the Times explains, the fact that the damage involved was in excess of $1,000 triggered a felony charge under Virginia state law.

Funny how we’re so quick to believe a lawyer, and not law enforcement officials.

Funny, I never hear someone sticking up for the police officer that just got shot and killed in the line of duty but when he is upholding the laws on the books you think they are the worst people on earth.

Hope you know not all police are dirty.

I’m just saying use the common sense principle. You seem to be taking this pretty seriously.
You read that story and tell me you think that kid deserves a felony?
Maybe I am bitter because I just received some “small town hospitality” going 50 in a 35 from the fattest, saddest excuse of a cop in a podunk town. But, 50% of these small town cops are not in it for the right reason and this kid does not deserve a felony. It does stink for the 50% that are. And the quota thing was a joke…relax bud. You are confirming every stereotype I could make based on your screen name.

His Lawyer says he drove a short distance and stopped to call his mom. I had my first accident at 18 and I knew not to drive away. Also, I knew my first call is to 911 and my second call was to my dad.

Besides, even if what the lawyer says is true, how do the police know he wasn’t trying to run from the scene? They are not in his head, police always must assume the worst and hope for the best. A judge and jury decide the truth.

And for the bonehead w/ the quota comment, you don’t make quota by charging someone w/ a felony. And there is no question this kid is getting a ticket for causing an accident. It’s easier to be stupid and you prove it.

Gotta love small town cops. Does this article say he drove a short distance from the accident, parked, and called his mom? Apparently so far that he was still in plain sight from the car. And no one was in the other car and no alcohol was involved? I feel like I did something similar in my first accident.
And they charged him with a felony?
This is pretty stupid. I hope Cletus hit his quota for for upholding the law.
