Backup Longhorns QB arrested on alcohol-related charges

While the following off-the-field incident is minor, so to speak, in comparison to what Texas offensive coordinator Major Applewhite did with a student in 2009 -- and what he could potentially be facing as a result -- it’s nevertheless added to a bad 24 hours for the Longhorns program.

Per multiple outlets, redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Brewer was arrested by UTPD overnight for public intoxication and minor in possession. He was booked into Travis County jail at 2:49 a.m.

“We’re aware of Connor’s situation, are disappointed anytime one of our players is accused of wrongdoing,” Mack Brown said in a statement. “We’ve talked with his family and will continue to monitor the situation.

“We’ve always prided ourselves in our program’s family atmosphere, and this will be handled within our family.”

A four-star member of Texas’ 2012 signing class, Brewer redshirted this past season and sat behind David Ash and Case McCoy.
