Not so unexpectedly, the Illinois-Northwestern game in November of 2010 won’t be the last played at a historic major league ballpark.
According to multiple media outlets, Northwestern is set to announce that multiple future games will be played at Wrigley Field. The details of the scheduling arrangement are expected to be revealed in a joint press conference with Chicago Cubs officials Tuesday.
Whether the same configuration featuring just one usable end zone will be utilized for future games remains to be seen.
In the Illini’s 48-27 win over the Wildcats three years ago, running back Mikel Leshoure rushed for a school record 330 yards. 159 of those yards came in the first quarter alone.
That Big Ten clash marked the first football game at Wrigley Field since 1970. The Chicago bears called the ivy-clad park home from 1921-1970 before moving to Soldier Field.
