Backup UNC QB no longer enrolled in school

Marquise Williams AP

Signing Day is just a couple of days away, and coaches and fans alike will be anxious to see which big name recruits they pull in.

One such former recruit for North Carolina, Marquise Williams, apparently won’t pan out. A school spokesperson told the News & Observer that Williams is no longer enrolled at UNC. No specific reason was given.

Williams redshirted his first year with the program before serving as a backup to Bryn Renner. In nine games in 2012, Williams compiled 186 yards on the grounds and 127 yards through the air for four total scores.

A four-star recruit in the Tar Heels’ 2011 class according to Rivals.com, Williams was considered one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country out of high school.

    Pretty simple really…Butch Davis had a great “setup” for him that included never having to go to class.
    Fedora encourages kids to go to class.
    Other reports are saying he could still return to school for what it’s worth.
    UNC has improved their off field antics, but is still considered one of a growing number of golden schools that will never get in any real trouble the NCAA.

    @unfinished

    LOL. UNC is a golden school that will not get in trouble with the NCAA?! Is the African-American studies department still up and running at this “golden school”? I’m wondering if Lawrence Taylor “earned a degree”? The NCAA continues to investigate your “school of gold”. Nah, UNC is like the gray or mare….SHE AIN’T WHAT SHE USED TO BE”!

    His comment of “Golden School” has nothing to do with perfermance on the field. It is more so like Notre Dame, well before this year, it was still seen as a top program even with struggles on tbe field. That’s UNC now a days, well known but not very good and because there well known and recognizable NCAA protects them. That’s what was trying to be said there.

    @thegamecocker

    a UNC player who doesn’t go to class is still smarter than a Univ. of South Carolina player who does.

    @borland….

    Got it. Thanks

    @Borland read that right. I’m not a unc alum or fan by any means. Actually graduated from another ACC school but not one of their big rivals.
    I simply meant the NCAA has lots of ties to that school and will never hit them as hard as they deserve. The president of the ACC is a former unc president and still looks out for them first hence a lot of the mess that conference has gone through.
    Again…not a unc fan at all. Surprised it came off that way.
    And as I mentioned before, Williams will be back to school and playing football next year…for the Tar Heels. That’s how unc rolls. Butch or no butch, they apply their own rules.

    Your name fits you to a tee. Like I said: THE OLE GRAY MARE SHE AIN’S WHAT SHE USED TO BE!

    John Swofford as Commissioner of the ACC (or Big East – South) is like letting the wolf guard the hen house. He’s a desciple of Dean Smith and he will go out of his way to protect UNC. Can’t wait for the Maryland ruling. Then hopefully we will see the ACC get cherry-picked like they did to the Big East. It’s a basketball conference first and foremost. Tobacco Road will never change as long as the North Carolina crowd remains in power there.
