Five-star LB Reuben Foster switches back to Alabama

reuben foster

Though Signing Day is still two days away, one of the top remaining uncommitted recruits in the country made his decision — verbally and non-binding, we might add — on Monday night.

Reuben Foster, a five-star linebacker according to major recruiting sites, chose Alabama over Auburn and Georgia on FOX Sports Southwest.

Foster had whittled his list of choices down to those three schools. The highly-touted recruit initially committed to the Tide last year before flipping to Auburn over the summer. Shortly thereafter, Foster got an Auburn tattoo on his forearm before ultimately opening his recruitment back up once Gene Chizik and his coaching staff was fired toward the end of last season.

Recently, Foster cut short an Auburn visit to head to Tuscaloosa.

Now, he plans on staying there for at least the next three years. Provided nothing changes again, that is.

He is going to be an All American and a high first round NFL draftee in his third year. Great news for Foster and for Alabama.

  2. timh1955 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:04 PM

Now the most important question is how is he going to get that Auburn tattoo off!

  3. gatiger says: Feb 4, 2013 11:05 PM

The drama with him will continue. Perhaps a strong dose of Saban is just what he needs.

  4. ebrownwareagle says: Feb 4, 2013 11:07 PM

So exactly how much did He Cost?!

  5. lbroberts123 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:09 PM

As an Auburn fan, I don’t even want him. He brings way too much drama and seems to be more trouble than he is worth.

  6. lasseter1113 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:13 PM

Lmao, my thoughts exactly Tim. Do any of my fellow Tide fans here find it strange that Scout has us ranked as the #9 class in the country with FIVE count em’ FIVE 5 star recruits??? Well it was 4, the same as #1 Michigan, before Foster committed but still…Anyways, good get for the Tide, really excited about the future of the program. Now if baseball would hurry up and get here to keep me busy until September, lol….

  7. kozbee says: Feb 4, 2013 11:13 PM

Foster will imo be in the mix for Bama to win another NC with the recruiting done.Goodluck Bama and keep the Crystal Ball in the SEC. Roll Tide..

  8. lasseter1113 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:15 PM

Can’t you just congratulate instead of hate Auburn fans? Would that be too much to ask? For real though, us Alabama fans would have been saying we didn’t want him either if he would have committed to Auburn, that’s just the way it goes..

  9. bamafan36 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:17 PM

LOL at all the bitter WornDeadBeagle’s! Y’all know ALL about paying for a player…..$cam Newton! LMBO

Foster is a beast, and WILL contribute to our run at next years BCS NC!

  10. bamafan36 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:19 PM

By the way….I bet he adds one word to his tattoo…..Kill, Beat, or Suck.

  11. dcroz says: Feb 4, 2013 11:24 PM

When he leaves Alabama (or whatever college he ends his career at) he will already have an endorsement deal with Wrecking Balm Tattoo Removal System lined up.

  12. dcroz says: Feb 4, 2013 11:30 PM

As far as where Alabama is ranked in recruiting: I’ve said all along that it is at least as much about what you do with who you get as it is about who you get. Recruiting rankings are just something to talk about in the offseason and really mean little. Boise State and Virginia Tech rarely rate among the top in their recruiting classes, and yet they have both been among the more successful programs over the last 10-15 years because they do a lot with who they get. Texas and USC, on the other hand, usually get great recruiting rankings, but lately have underachieved in relation to the potential that the scouting services say they sign. It’s not where you rate in February that matters, it’s where you rate in January.

  13. jason1214 says: Feb 4, 2013 11:49 PM

I wonder if Auburn fans will think he is “too much drama” on the field against them. RTR

  14. liverpoolred04 says: Feb 5, 2013 1:12 AM

Lets not forget it was a “business decision”…at least he’ll get a good deal on deer antler spray

  15. timh1955 says: Feb 5, 2013 5:15 AM

Boise State wins because they play community colleges and technical schools every year. That’s why they win with 1 and 2 star players. And they have never been anywhere near the top 25 in recruiting. They will never get the top players in the country as none of the top players are going to play at a school like BSU that has very little TV/national exposure and is geographically a very undesirable location and that has a 33,000 seat stadium with a blue field.

  17. scalpemseminoles says: Feb 5, 2013 6:39 AM

You have a point about boise’s schedule, but they still have more players currently in the nfl than a team like vanderbilt

  18. rsmeans says: Feb 5, 2013 7:28 AM

kATTYKATHY I suggest you change your name to DUMMY DUMMY. That seems to better mirror your character.

  19. bamafan36 says: Feb 5, 2013 7:38 AM

Your vitriol is noted, predictable, and we have grown tired of it. I clearly understand why there is absolutely zero respect for you on CFT and PFT.

Boise State has 19 players “in” the NFL, currently. They have four starters, and nine contributors. Vandy has 12 in the NFL, with 7 starting and 11 contributing. And they hav had no remarkable development from coaches. That should change….

  20. be4bama says: Feb 5, 2013 7:51 AM

Y’all leave Kathy alone. He’s a very confused man stuck in a woman’s body.

  21. bamafan36 says: Feb 5, 2013 7:59 AM

    LOL be4bama!!!!

I believe she may be protected……..isn’t there a law that protects people that are cra-cra?

Last time I’ll say this…17-18 year old kids are entitled to choose where they wanna go to school…minds change…oh I forgot..none of you EVER changed your mind at 17 or 18.

  25. krycek84 says: Feb 5, 2013 9:50 AM

    Off-Field problems
    NFL 5th Round pick
Out of NFL after 3 years

That’s the program for Reuben Foster…

  26. mogogo1 says: Feb 5, 2013 10:11 AM

This kid doesn’t sound like the brightest bulb. Alabama must be scrambling to add tutors as we speak.

The first time he changed his mind was totally fine. It was getting the Auburn tattoo shortly before changing his mind the SECOND time that drew people’s attention. Normal folks, be they 18 or 80, would have viewed the tattoo as the “decision made, it’s over” moment.

  28. jason1214 says: Feb 5, 2013 10:58 AM

I hear ya…thats why they say tattoo’s are permanent. Had he NOT gotten one…this wouldnt be a big deal

  29. jason1214 says: Feb 5, 2013 10:59 AM

Oh here we go with the…must be an idiot to attend Bama…right cause all college athletes are scholars.

  30. kozbee says: Feb 5, 2013 12:08 PM

Saban better think of ways to keep him there more then one season.IMO Foster was good enough to go pro right out of high school.Im thinking he will be looking at the draft in 2014 and cant blame him for the type contract he will be offered at the pro level.Hope him the best in the future and that when he goes pro he can get on a team willing to win a Superbowl.Goodluck Foster.

#tim. In the worst way I wanted to make some smart-@$$ reference to him calling someone at Ohio State, but I’m not going to do it. I’m just not going to go there :)

  32. florida727 says: Feb 5, 2013 12:20 PM

#kozbee, do you not know the rules for NFL draft eligibility? A player has to be THREE YEARS removed from high school to enter the NFL draft. I’ve seen you touting this kid multiple times now. We get it. You think he’s great. He’s still not entering the NFL until the 2016 draft.

  33. jason1214 says: Feb 5, 2013 12:22 PM

NCAA rules mandate you must be a junior academically or 3 years removed from high school to go pro…did you miss Maurice Clarrett challenging that a few years back?

  34. timh1955 says: Feb 5, 2013 12:26 PM

You look ignorant when you make ridiculous and incorrect comments like you did. Sometimes it’s better to be quiet when you don’t know all the facts and rules.

  35. bamafan36 says: Feb 5, 2013 12:50 PM

If I am not mistaken, the NFL has age requirements. Foster can’t enter the draft without waivers, and unable to attend another school, and until his junior eligibility year.

  36. mtmk0586 says: Feb 5, 2013 1:23 PM

Satan bought another one! Looks like he is about 25 or so!

  37. timh1955 says: Feb 5, 2013 1:32 PM

Do you just say stuff and think others more intelligent will believe it? When has Saban EVER bought or even been accused of it by any reputable people? What team do you support and lets see what’s in their past.

  38. jason1214 says: Feb 5, 2013 1:43 PM

Hilarious and so true…my god if your team is doing well on field or in recruiting…they MUST be cheating lol

  39. be4bama says: Feb 5, 2013 1:55 PM

What talented kid being heavily recruited wouldn’t want to go to BAMA? You play for the best coach, in front of +100,000 of your best friends, while millions watch each Saturday on CBS or ESPN? These young men know where their best chance to make it to the NFL is. This class will blow people’s minds in a year or two.

  40. ajsjr40 says: Feb 5, 2013 2:00 PM

He can take off his tattoo by using some of that acid the ‘Bama idiot used to kill those trees.

  41. jason1214 says: Feb 5, 2013 2:02 PM

Don’t get the haters all riled up. That being said, you are 100% correct. RTR

  42. be4bama says: Feb 5, 2013 2:10 PM

Hey Jason, did you hear NSD no longer stands for National Signing day? It’s been changed to NICK SABAN DAY!!!
And Saban no longer recruits…..he just interviews!!!

  43. irishdodger says: Feb 5, 2013 2:21 PM

Recruiting services have become a cottage industry. I’d prefer rankings be based on team need. I remember when Weis would get impressive hauls at ND but they’d all be offensive play makers w/ no front 7 help on D.

I also remember in the mid-90s when Nebraska had a juggernaut similar to what Bama has now & they never signed a top 10 class….or at least a top 5 class. Of course, recruiting has changed since then & Nebraska was able to sign more playes through local high school schollies that were funded by alumni. Unfortunately, for them that loophole has been closed. Great idea at the time though as they weren’t breaking rules.

what a genius gets an Auburn Tat and goes to Bama, he might not know they are permanent.

with the group down there he might graduate top of his class, No IVY GROWING ON THOSE WALLS!!!!!! Cant make this up unreal

He just needs some deer antler and PED”S then he will fit right in. Roll Dam Cheaters!!!

  45. timh1955 says: Feb 5, 2013 4:52 PM

What’s your team?? It’s amazing when a team like Alabama dominates college football how the homers will come out of the woods trying to sling crap but they only look ignorant for making such juvenile comments.

  46. be4bama says: Feb 5, 2013 4:56 PM

  48. bamasleeper13 says: Feb 5, 2013 5:30 PM

WOW, all the haters are out! So do all of you hate the big recruits that your school gets? Must ALL be cheating, right??? You can pick up every 5 star there is but if you can’t develop them it doesn’t matter. Players go to Alabama that want to play in the NFL, why wouldn’t they??

  49. kozbee says: Feb 5, 2013 5:38 PM

Its never a done deal till the clock strikes zero or the paper has been signed.Ive seen many recruits flip just before deadlines and it can happen to any team on signing day.SEC RULES.

  50. bamafan36 says: Feb 5, 2013 6:08 PM

I just LOVE it when a Neutered Dame fan comes out to call someone else a cheater. Manti Te’o should have to line up in front of every man that did not get invited to New York. When your program covers up TWO rapes, kills a videographer, and has to lie about a mediocre LB to get national attention, you need to sit on the back of the bus and let the grown folks talk! And that timeline accounts for the last four years! Talk about a program dirtier than The U was!

  51. kozbee says: Feb 6, 2013 3:27 AM

My understanding wherever Foster ends up he might have qualifying issues. His grades are not what they should be and just might go to a juco college. To much time with the media could be part of the cause if this info is right. We can wait and see.Hope things go ok for him.

  52. be4bama says: Feb 6, 2013 8:51 AM

Today’s recruits were in the 5th grade the last time a non SEC school won the BCS National Championship.

  53. amosalanzostagg says: Feb 6, 2013 8:03 PM

I had a client call and tell me that the SEC had six of the top ten recruiting classes, I cannot believe how each of the programs are elevating the SEC to new heights. That being said it is going to war next fall.
Like Bette Davis said(Yeah, I’m older than dirt.)
“You better buckle yourself in,it’s looks like it’s going to a a bumpy ride!”
