I don’t know what Bev Kearney was paid as track coach but I’m thinking her settlement is going to be huge. (And bet on a settlement because no way does UT want it to go to trial and have even more embarrassing stories like this come out.)

I noticed the lack of pronouns, as well. Could be reading too much into it, but still….

As it is, things today are not as they were a generation ago when it comes to faculty/student relationships at colleges. Time was that professors could have sexual relationships with students, and as long as they kept it quiet, the whole thing was overlooked by the school with a wink-wink-nudge-nudge. Nowadays, even dinner parties hosted by professors with several of their graduate students are frowned upon for fear of harassment or discrimination suits being filed against the institution, or at the very least the negative publicity that could come with it. The litigious society we have become has made even higher education paranoid.

The lack of gender specific language is the most interesting part of this. Everybody here was an adult here and unless this “student” was involved with the football program Petrino style? Just makes Applewhite look like a scumbag for cheating on his pregnant wife. If the student was a dude, then yeah, this is a big story.

Strangest thing about it is that neither the university nor Applewhite have made clear it was a female. That’s pretty odd. The university just says it was a “student” and Applewhite’s apology didn’t mention the other party at all. Was it a guy?

Fact is HE was promoted to OC AFTER the affair
and BOTH the HC and AD supposedly knew so what does this say about the UT athletic dept admin!!!!!

Applewhite was also recently out of college back then. So, he likely was only 3 or 4 years older than this person. The person was obviously over the age of 18 (since it specifically says “adult”). The track coach was coaching the player. I dont know any details of Applewhite’s affair, but unless it was with a player then this is a different situation than Kearney’s.

I feel sorry for Applewhites wife. She not only had to live with this affair privately, but now she has to go through it all over again…..publically.
