Starting defensive lineman leaving Houston

Just ahead of National Signing Day and adding fresh personnel to the football program, Houston has found itself losing a veteran member of its defensive line.

According to the Houston Chronicle, defensive lineman Zeke Riser has decided to transfer from the Cougars. While no transfer destination was given -- the Texas Longhorns are a rumored destination, however -- Riser indicated that he would be heading to a program that’s closer to family.

“190 miles or 70? Think about it... #FamilyOverEverything,” the player tweeted Saturday afternoon.

Riser graduated from UH in December, meaning he would be eligible to play immediately at an FBS school if he enters a grad program not offered at his former university.

As a true freshman in 2009, Riser started all 14 games for the Cougars. A knee injury sidelined him from all of the 2010 season, but he came back to start 13 games the past two seasons. Nine of those starts came in 2012 as a redshirt junior.
