Sonny is a very good coach, don’t get me wrong. I just think similar to Rich Rod at Michigan, chemistry wise, Sonny may not be a good fit at Cal. Time will tell.

Because it sounds like he was totally taken to the cleaners by Cal.

Cal was going to get back 100% of any salary he earned for three years in exchange for $6.9 million? That effectively would keep him from taking another job. And even in the reworked deal, Cal gets 50% of everything over $1.5 million. Really, by modern standards this is a pretty painless buyout for Cal.

Tedford’s Cal teams got progressively worse over the years, leading up to this year’s team that completely quit on him. He was a “QB Guru” that consistently produced the worst QBs in the conference. An “offensive genius” with horribly ineffective and predictable play calling. If anything they gave him too many chances to turn things around.
