Final five-star recruit signs with Notre Dame on Signing Day

Brian Kelly AP

Signing Day is drawing to an end, but one of the most sought-after recruits in the country waited until this evening to sign his letter of intent.

Placer High School (Calif) defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes committed to Notre Dame over the likes of Alabama, UCLA and USC. Vanderdoes is listed at 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds. He is considered the No. 2 DT in this year’s class and the No. 21 overall prospect for 2013.

Notre Dame currently has the No. 4 recruiting class according to Rivals.com, but could very well move up a spot or two with this latest addition. The Irish didn’t get a lot of national pub today — not many programs outside the SEC did — but Brian Kelly has put together an impressive recruiting class that features three five-star recruits and 14 four-star recruits.

My first reaction to hearing this news was that he wasn’t that good of a recruit anyway…j/k

Seriously this is a nice get for ND – they are building a solid team up there. This guy is going to be really good.

As a Bama fan, I’m disappointed. But, ND is a great education and the kid was respectful to all the schools that he visited.

I hope that he made the right decision for him and that it works out. At the very least he’ll have a great education to fall back on.

Believe us he did make the right decision and thanks for the backhanded compliment about him falling back on his education-is that not why they go to college. Oh I forgot not at Alabama.

As opposed to all those years in the 1990s and 2000s when Notre Dame had all those outstanding recruiting classes but so little to show for it?
