As I heard the doc and family of southernpatriots explain it, giving me a history lesson, there was a time when Southern teams and schools were distained. Most of the sports writers came from the North, and especially the Northeast. They did not think Southern schools deserved attention, so they ignored them and would rank them lowly, if at all. This produced a “brotherhood” (or “sisterhood”) among Southern or SEC fans, which you articulated well.

I supported all SEC teams and always have in non-conference games including post-season bowls. I even supported Alabama and though I swallowed hard at times to do that, I did. If LSU does not win the NC, then it is good another SEC team does. That keeps it in the “brotherhood.”

BTW irishdodger, I am an Alabama fan and we just won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. I forget who we beat, some team up north? Anyways, I still rooted for every SEC team that played in a bowl game. What I’m saying is it’s not about success, it’s about pride. You just don’t get it, and that’s fine, you’re not meant too. Hell, I wouldn’t expect someone who is the fan of a team who doesn’t even belong to a conference to understand anyways. So why not just move on from it instead of always leaving snide little comments about it?
