not to be nit picky Deb, but Oklahoma(OU) and even Auburn has more national merit scholars than Alabama has…..impressive list however. I found that information on the national merit dot org site on page 38…it list all Universities in the US and how many national merit scholars are enrolled there.

Vandy(of course) leads all SEC schools with 226 scholars(161 on main campus) Florida has 144 and Texas A&M has 132

I got from your comment what you posted–a slam on state flags that incorporate slavery, which is an obvious reference to Southern states. Ohio was not a slave state, so its state flag would have no slavery connotation no matter how you choose to interpret its design.

I reacted because as a CFT regular for many years, I’m accustomed to commenters routinely posting bigoted comments about SEC schools, Southern schools, and Southern fans whenever something goes wrong for them. Lose a game–attack Southerners as stupid and racist. Someone things your flag is ugly–attack Southerners as stupid and racist. Alabama is recognized as having the rest recruiting class–attack Southerners as being stupid and question the GPA of the recruits. As it happens, Alabama also is the top-ranked public school for National Merit Scholars.

How sad that you people can’t man up and talk football without calling other people stupid and racist. Slavery? Really? It’s 2013. The Civil War ended in 1865. Get a grip.

By the way, why did you just assume the slavery line was about the south? Have you ever seen Ohio’s state flag?

You totally blew your whole credible point out of the water. What? The Ohio (northern state) flag looks too much like a confederate flag? Even though it doesn’t?

Sorry if, that’s what you got from the post. Tons of citizens from Maryland are sick & tired people putting down our state flag, many of us not U of M grads are perfectly happy to see. Our state pride on a football uniform and not that small patch the Ravens use.
