APAlready connected to one defensive coordinator job in the NFL, Georgia’s Todd Grantham has his name in the coaching rumor mill once again.
Grantham is expected to interview for the Saints DC job on Thursday, per the New Orleans Times-Picayune and Saints reporter Kristian Garic. ESPN reports that former Dallas Cowboys DC Rob Ryan is the frontrunner for the Saints DC gig, but Grantham is apparently at least in the running.
Per the terms of Grantham’s contract, he must notify his athletic director, Greg McGarity, of any employment opportunity. As of 9:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday night, Grantham had not done that.
Signing Day is today, so Grantham’s future with Georgia is obviously something many recruits would like to know. For what it’s worth, Grantham is also still reportedly in the running for the DC job with the Philadelphia Eagles.
It is obvious that Grantham will be leaving for the NFL in all likelihood. UGA of course does not want this announcement until after National Signing day since they could lose some potential big time recruits if he leaves. He is an excellent defensive coach and can pretty much go wherever he wants.
It is at this moment just a rumor, although badly timed. If Coach Grantham has not notified the Athletic Director, then there is really no firm plan at the moment. If it turns out to have any impact on any recruit considering going to UGA, and it is proven and Coach Grantham, is still at UGA, I it would just be ashamed, and another example of the media over stepping it’s area. I would think that newspaper could have at least sat on the story until the 7th, since it is at best a rumor.
He will be an Eagle by tomorrow and Rob Ryan will be a Saint.
