Well he did win a national title with Miami. I don't care what players he had. That's like saying anybody could win the BCS in Alabama because they have the best recruiting class in the nation. Alabama always has one of the best recruiting class in the nation, but they weren't winning any companionships until Sabin arrived. Erickson took Oregon State to their first winning season in 29 years and came withing a missed field goal of taking that team to the BCS title game. I don't care what you think of him, he's a very accomplished coach.

So true Florida, taking another coaches players and to win a championship, that's not an easy task. Look this guy had many flaws as a head coach, mostly he ran a loose ship and gave the players way to long a leash. He did very well at Oregon St as well, but he always had player issues on and off the grid. Look at how it ended at A-State, his best players eventually turned on him. I know this guy a little. I think being a position coach only, this will be like retirement he can do what he truly loves and not have to deal with all the headaches a HC has to deal with. Besides, having no job and hanging out drinking, is no way to spend the rest of your days. Good luck to you coach and have fun.

I'm not a fan of his, or a "hater", but I say good for him. The guy is 65 years old. Most people can't wait to retire, kick back, and do whatever they darn well please every day for the rest of their life. This guy bleeds football. I hope he gets the gig. It's obvious his passion for coaching hasn't changed a single bit.

As far as him winning a national title with another coach's players, what do you think John Gruden did? There's a million other examples too. Obviously he did something right, otherwise the previous coach would have still been there and won the title with his own players.

To have an Offensive mind like this guys got, that would be a catch for the Utes. I would never hand him the car keys again, but as an assistant, it's a no brainer.
