Reports: Miami loses another coach to NFL

Jedd Fisch, George McDonald AP

Three weeks after losing one assistant to the NFL, Al Golden has apparently lost another to the same club.

Both the Miami Herald and CoachingSearch.com reported during the midst of National Signing Day that running backs coach Terry Richardson will be leaving the Hurricanes for a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.  The school has thus far declined to comment on Richardson’s status.

In mid-January, it was announced that offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch had assumed the same position on new head coach Gus Bradley‘s Jaguars coaching staff.

Richardson has spent the past two seasons at The U after spending 11 years at UConn.

    The recruiting class (yesterday) sucked badly. Several high profile In-State guys that Miami thought they had wrapped up went elsewhere. They brought in no impact defensive players to a team that gave up nearly 500 yds of offense per game last year. The offensive Co-ordinator left for the NFL and in exchange got an offensive Co-ordinator that has never called his own plays. Add to that the NCAA still breathing down their necks and sanctions coming in the very near future and Golden is looking at a disaster. Golden is even whining about it… uh, oh… http://throwtheflagblog.com/2013/02/al-golden-thinks-florida-and-fsu-are-getting-special-treatment/

    palmbeachbuckeye… assuming you’re from palm beach county… What’s your beef with Miami? Why don’t you take your jerky self back up to C-Bus where you can be happy and surrounded by all your other Bucks.

  4. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 7, 2013 2:15 PM

    my beef with Miami is all the Arrogant canes fans who think the program is relevant when they havent won a Conference title since joining the ACC, Havent even won their own division since joining the ACC, have been absolutely punked in every bowl game they have played in since 2004, and cant quit whining about losing games from more than a decade ago. Not much else…

  5. mik303 says: Feb 7, 2013 2:43 PM

    In response to Palmbeachbuckeye (who is probably Nevin Shapiro’s nephew) here is my response.

    “The recruiting class (yesterday) sucked badly.”

    You’re wrong. If you rate the Miami recruiting class by the average Star rating on rivals.com, Miami finished #2 in the ACC. The overall number of recruits was low, because we have self imposed recruiting sanctions. Something that Ohio State was too greedy to do, and paid for it last year by sitting out of the national championship. Which pretty much makes the entire Buckeye Athletic Department look stupid.

    “Several high profile In-State guys that Miami thought they had wrapped up went elsewhere.”
    True, but Miami has two other schools in our state that just went to BCS games, while Miami has self imposed with scholarship reductions. You can’t get them all, but we still got some GREAT local talent.

    “They brought in no impact defensive players to a team that gave up nearly 500 yds of offense per game last year.”
    1st of all, Miami only had 1 senior starting in 2012. Second of all, Jamal Carter, Artie Burns, AQ Muhammed and Jermaine Grace are all 4 Star athletes on defense that chose to go to Miami over Ohio State. So what are you talking about?

    “The offensive Co-ordinator left for the NFL and in exchange got an offensive Co-ordinator that has never called his own plays.”

    If the Ohio State offense even remotely resembled an NFL offense, you would have lost your offensive coordinator too.
    Not to mention, Jedd Fisch, only had one season as an OC before taking the Miami job. I guess Jedd learned quick. LOL

    “Add to that the NCAA still breathing down their necks and sanctions coming in the very near future”
    Wrong again. We have just voluntarily imposed 2 years of sanctions. There are no more penalties coming. We are done. Big announcement from the NCAA coming next week has already leaked.
    Time served is sufficient. Perhaps you should have thought about self imposing before you lost that pathetic bowl game in 2011 and lost to Miami too. Oops!

    Good try though Buckeye fan. You should be happy about your new coach, soft schedule and Heisman candidate QB. You don’t have to kick Miami to make yourself look good.
    After your 13-0 regular seson (against unranked opponents) next year, you can look forward to another SEC beatdown, just like Notre Dame got.

  6. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 7, 2013 3:30 PM

    #45 Miami (FL) — Yea, it sucked. Enjoy Al Golden too, a coach with a career losing record who has done nothing but “win at Temple”. Big deal, Temple played no-one. Enjoy….

  7. canehouse says: Feb 7, 2013 3:36 PM

    palmbeachbuckeye… yeah we’re really arrogant! We had a nice run of domiance in the 80’s and early 90’s. We once again put together one of college football’s greatest team in the early 2000’s. There have been a lot of great teams, and if ytou consider that Oklahoma won 47 consecutive games without a loss from 1953 to 1957. Not only does that streak remain the longest in college football history, but only two programs have come within one season of matching it. Miami (2000 to 2002) and USC (2003 to 2005) both won 34 consecutive games.
    Earlier iterations of the Hurricanes and Trojans qualified as dynasties without the winning streaks, because they brought home more hardware over longer periods of time. USC won three wire-service championships from 1967 to 1974. Miami built the longest sustained dynasty, which also happened to be the most unusual. In the decade beginning in 1983, Miami won four national championships (1983, ’87, ’89, ’91), fell one loss short of four others (’85, ’86, ’88, ’92), and did it all under three different head coaches: Howard Schnellenberger (1983), Jimmy Johnson (1984 to 1988) and Dennis Erickson (1989 to 1994).

    So yes we expect to be back to where we once were… and we are confident that it will happen… what you need to do is quit worrying about us… cause we will always be in your face… especially if you live in Palm Beach County (I live in East Delray Beach), or anywhere else in South Florida. It sounds like you’re a square in round world… maybe you should shovel your boots back to Ohio where you can kum ba yah with your bucknut fanbase about Urban Myer. Cause if your down here we will be in your face.

  8. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 7, 2013 3:57 PM

    I’m here in SoFla… and I know about you East Delray Beach types– you always have SOMETHING in people’s faces…

  9. canehouse says: Feb 7, 2013 4:19 PM

    you probably live out in Green Acres, or over in Lake Park… you broke down slack-jawed drooling rube.

  10. gotampabay52 says: Feb 7, 2013 4:29 PM

    palmbeach with thing its eye “A NUT” go back Ohio or are you a bandwagoner and once canes get back at the top you will switch your jersey back to green and orange hate fans like you

  11. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 7, 2013 4:45 PM

    Trust me… I am not a “bandwagoner”. The Canes have that covered… not selling out a home football game or even having 10K in the crowd for a home game is inexcusable for a program that everyone claims is “on the way back” and “so rich in tradition”. Once the Canes win a few games everyone is all in. No one ever mentioned the basketball program and now suddenly everyone has been a fan for years now that they are in the top-10. I’m no rube, I have a college degree, advanced training, work in a high paying career field and live in a very nice home in Palm Beach county. The next time I see you I will be sure to ask for ketchup with my fries. Miami fans are the most pathetic fans in the country–fill up the stadium and travel for a bowl game and then you will credible.

  12. canehouse says: Feb 7, 2013 5:39 PM

    Whatever… You have no idea who you’re dealing with. Go back to your cave a dream on.

  13. thegamecocker says: Feb 7, 2013 5:56 PM

    LOL. Miami has really bought into the culture of the ACC and has become a truly great BASKETBALL SCHOOL with little relevance in football. This is really funny b/c Swofford brought Miami and BC in for football and both programs are horrible. And I do mean horrible! ND blasted Miami and ND claims that as one of their signature wins. What a joke Miami football has become. They haven’t won anything since entering the ACC.

  14. canetic says: Feb 7, 2013 5:56 PM

    Haven’t the buckeyes cornered the market on arrogance without accomplishing anything? Big 10 championships really count for a lot until you play out of the conference.

  15. jimmy53 says: Feb 7, 2013 6:08 PM

    Canes fans are a joke…there’s a great thread on insidetheU right now titled “what does fsu have that we don’t.” Ummmm, a 12-2 record, an acc championship, a bcs win, a head coach with a winning record, stability, and a good recruiting class. UM’s class was ranked 8th…IN THE ACC!!

  16. thegamecocker says: Feb 7, 2013 6:19 PM

    @jimmy53

    One thing that Miami has that FSU doesn’t is THE MOST DESPICABLE COLLEGE PRESIDENT IN THE COUNTRY: DONNA SHALAYLA What a beast!

  17. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 7, 2013 6:33 PM

    Lets see… since 2002 OSU played in a BCS game in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.. and won all but 3 of them. Miami cant even win the MicronPc.com bowl. And Canehouse, I know exactly who I am dealing with– an arrogant wannabe Canes fan–just like the rest of the bunch. You are probably typing right now on Mommy’s computer while she brings you PB&J sandwiches and chocolate milk. Are you in your Pajamas yet??? Get real. First sell out a home game vs anyone, then win your conference (or at least play for the conference title) more than once in a decade then we can talk. Until then, as your Alumnus the Rock would say… shut up and know your role Gibroni.

  18. jimmy53 says: Feb 7, 2013 6:48 PM

    The facts are this: Over the past 10-12 years the Canes have lost close to 23,000 fans per game at home games. That’s just embarrassing! If you can’t get fans to the games you definitely won’t get players on the team. A LOSS OF 23,000! I’m laughing just typing it! That’s what happens when the majority of your fans have never stepped foot on the Miami campus—what a joke. The things they’ve been bragging about lately: a coach with an overall losing record, and the fact that they may get less sanctions because the NCAA is crooked…not even denying the fact that they were dirty as hell anymore. Way to go Canes–such high standards! Enjoy your long slow crawl to the bottom–looks like you’ll be there a while~

  19. canehouse says: Feb 7, 2013 8:10 PM

    Yeah, Yeah, Yeah… Whatever… Yuck it up gamecocker… What the f has So Cakalakee won? Squat!!! Really… What have you ever won? SEC East right…. Just scurry away and dream of sniffing the excellence we have lived down here. We will be back… Probably not as quick as you cousin fuking racist think your gonna win one… Bet your south carolina educated self that we arrive before you!!!

  20. thegamecocker says: Feb 7, 2013 9:48 PM

    @canehouse

    The only reason the Canes were so successful in the 80’s & 90’s are because you cheated! Your boy Paul Dee pulled a fast one on USCw then dropped dead before his esteemed U of Miami team disintegrated into the shameful abyss which you find yourself in presently. At South Carolina games, we have more than 25,000 watching the game on the OUTSIDE of the stadium. Your pathetic fan base doesn’t draw that many fans on the INSIDE of the stadium. Now STFU Turkey!

  21. miamimike1 says: Feb 8, 2013 2:15 AM

    I never understand why people who dislike a team will go to their site or go to a story about the team and just ramble on and waste their time.
    Miami made mistakes just as Ohio State has more than once. Colleges in trouble happens sooner or later to most of them. Miami has had their share. They have paid for the issues they had. Even this last time they have given up three bowl games, millions ofdollars, sanctioned their own recruiting by taking less recruits. Other schools have used it to their own benefits. This also cost Miami in getting players. Just don’t bash a team for troubles it has since your own college chances has or will have problems. Filling the stadium I laugh at. The school has around 18, 000 students. If evey student decided to leave South Beach to drive to a game they would fill the end zone. So yea thwy dont fill the stadium. That never stopped them from winning championships
    Its a lot easier to fill a stadium thats on campus and has 50, 000 plus students in a town where that’s the only thing to do.
    With all the negative points brought out It seems Miami still has done pretty damn giod at winning. They had record or still does at most home games won in a row. Thwy had record number of 1st round picks in one year and in years in a row. They had record number of players in NFL at one point. Hell they had 7 play in this Super Bowl alone. So with all you negative remarks and trying to point out issue’s it seens Miami has done well. They will come back in time as most schools do. They all drop sooner or later then work their way back. So please go worry about your school stop trying to make points about Miami that really are nothing other than non factors anyways! !!!!! Go Canes

  22. jimmy53 says: Feb 8, 2013 2:26 AM

    miamimike1:

    The problem is that the Canes success in the past has nothing to do with the present. The mystique only lasts so long (ask the noles about Bowden’s last couple of years).

    The trouble the Canes are in is one of the worst scandals in the history of NCAA football…so, you’re wrong. I don’t think you will find another team that has hookers and abortions paid by boosters or PED’s being made on their campus. You reap what you sow.

  23. canehouse says: Feb 8, 2013 7:02 AM

    gamecocker: who cares how many of your fans are sitting outside of the stadium… You haven’t ever won anything in football…. you guys are loyal but also as dumb as my bulldog… and by the way South Carolina ain’t West Point… You guys have had your run-in’s with the NCAA too…. and you still couldn’t win squat.

  24. chachooga says: Feb 8, 2013 8:25 AM

    @ohiostate @gamecocker

    Bwaahahahaha…….you guys go on and on about how bad UM is. After 10 years of supposed irrelevance you both seem to know a whole lot about UM.

    Best nugget from the NUT “temple never played anyone” hahhahahaha!!!!!!

    Canes are in a great place with Golden.

    OSU guy is bitter bc even after the worse callin NCAA history in 2001, most people still don’t care about the Buckeyes.

    And USC gamecock guy….decades of almost….DECADES!

    BUT EVERYONE CARES ABOUT THE U, INCLUDING YOU TWO.

    comedy gold.

  25. thegamecocker says: Feb 8, 2013 8:35 AM

    @chachooga & canehouse

    Everyone cares about the “U” because if we turn our heads, you guys are cheating like hell! I’m sure your school is connected to more than one “Nevin Shapiro” at the “U”. Nevin will “sing like a bird” to get that sentence reduced and be on the “U” sideline once again. But I will say this: Al Golden is a really good coach and can build a program. As for comments about U. of South Carolina academics, I will put up any of our academic programs versus the “U” ANYDAY! Our business school is outstanding and The International School of Business is ranked #1. Better than the Thunderbird School in Arizona….no Canehouse….not the wine Thundrbird”….the school ya fool.

  26. miamimike1 says: Feb 8, 2013 8:47 AM

    Jimmy 53

    Please look at all scandals. You seem to be blinded by your dislike for miami. Its ok to dislike a team in sports thats what makes sports interesting. Everyone has opinions.

    First To talk about boosters at miami is fine but there have been schools from the 70s to today who have same issues. PEDs is something not even proven at this time. Hookers , schools have used strippers hookers before in recruiting new players who would come to campus to see school. Is it wrong? 100% just don’t single out one school.Go look up worst scandals in college football history on line. From Boston College Gators South Carolina SMU BAYLOR CLEMSON MICHIGAN to name just a small portion. Some had sex assults murder cover ups betting payoffs booster to school payoffs pell grants PEDS agian there are many. So just don’t use Miami as the one school that has done wrong. Right now they are being accussed of issues that are not all true. Yes some are. Remember the accussations comes from a man who cheated people out of 920 million dollars. Has lied to NCAA as well. Said he had ax to grind with miami and would do whatever he could to take the school down. This is not a person with great track record. Miami is not perfect by any means but worst scandal in history? They haven’t been proven guilty yet of anything just accused. Agaian you can dislike Miami but just dont write out of that same dislike.
    There are so many schools including the one you back that at some point have had issues. Miami has not one a Championship since2001 but they have been relevant in regards to players they have put in NFL since 2001 and before. Im betting your NFL team has a Hurricane player on it. Miami will get through this and will slowly get back in the hunt for titles as many schools do when they drop off their sucess.

  27. palmbeachbuckeye says: Feb 8, 2013 8:57 AM

    “most people still dont care about the Buckeyes”…. Yea, uh huh. OSU fills over 110k seats per home game, Miami cant sell 25k per home game. And OSU IS the MOST POPULAR team in the USA. Enjoy Al Golden, a coach with a career losing record, no major bowl win, and no top 10 recruiting class. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/33561/study-big-ten-teams-most-popular

  28. thegamecocker says: Feb 8, 2013 9:19 AM

    @miamimike

    IMO the reason people get on other team websites has more to do with the PERCEIVED fan base than the school itself. Specifically many fans have this superiority position when it comes to Miami football that is no longer accurate. Other Miami fans post degrading remarks about other schools academics. At one time Miami was a “safety school” for many students. I am happy to learn that is no longer the case, that the academic component has improved greatly at U. of Miami. For the record though, anyone can receive an outstanding education at any college or university in this country….but I digress. It is the fan base that brings out posters such as myself to “attack” the “U”. BTW, I do not include you in the group of Miami fans who are rude and think they are elitists like Canehouse. Have a good day.

  29. canehouse says: Feb 8, 2013 10:07 AM

    Gamecoker… I was more particular to Mad Dog 20/20… of course that’s only back in my undergrad days, when I would drink it through a funnel, Now I am Scotch drinker, I mean now that I am a pillar in the community, and successful beyond your wildest dreams… of course as a direct result of having two degrees from The University of Miami… which by the way is ranked by US News as the 44th best University… guess where the Esteemed University of South Carloina Comes in at??? 115th!!! ONE HUNDRED & FIFETEENTH… I am willing to bet my 5th row Heat Season Tickets that Every student at the University of Miami could get into your beloved place of almost higher learning, while a small percentage (maybe 10%) of your student body could gain acceptance into the University of Miami, and the ones that could… would probably have a hard time affording to do so… cause we ain’t cheap (just a click under $40k a year).

    Enjoy your pimento cheese sandwiches while you’re watching re-runs of duke of hazzard, and I will be enjoying Joe’s Stone Crab tonight, prior to heading over to the AAA to watch Lebron, and D-Wade lock up with Blake Griffin, and Chris Paul… and then tomorrow, I will be taking my kids to the Bank United Center to watch the Canes Hoop team throttle Roy Williams and company… oh yeah… Sunday, I will be back at the AAA watching the Heat embarass the Laker show. Which begs the question… what do you guys do once football season is over? Where do the millions upon millions of Gamecokers flock to support… the Columbia Blowfish??? oh my you sure have it good.

  30. thegamecocker says: Feb 8, 2013 10:26 AM

    @miamimike & Canehouse

    And the response above is EXACTLY what I’m referring to! The canehouse has this superiority complex and feels the need to brag. It’s folks like him that irritate many respectful posters on these threads. His pretentiousness and sarcasm would be sickening if not so humorous. He is the type of person who would go around and say how many Black, Hispanic, or Jewish friends he has. He’s probably someone who believes everyone south of the Mason-Dixon line are stupid, ignorant, and racist. Notice he makes no mention of his “beloved” Wife….thinks taking his children to Heat games and Joe’s Stone Crab makes him a “great dad”. For the record, I sent my Daughter to U. of Penn. which costs substantially more than Miami…
    Now get lost and no need to respond…honestly, you sicken me and you make U. of Miami look bad.

  31. canehouse says: Feb 8, 2013 11:41 AM

    I am sorry, that I sicken you with my unwavering confidence… Congratulations is in order… you bred a smart one, is she or did she go to Wharton? Since you mentioned my wife, I married a pretty smart one… but you know what else she is… Extraordinaryily Gorgeous, and also successful. She will be with me on Sunday at the AAA watching the World Champion Miami Heat… she has other obligations tomorrow for the Canes game… she was with me on Tuesday night along with my 4 children watching the Canes drop Boston College.

    Ummm I don’t think people south of the Mason Dixon line are stupid… I reside south of the Mason Dixon line… would i consider myself stupid… Ha… I think you know the answer to that.

    Anyway’s I will not respond to you any further… but perhaps we may cross paths someday… I have in the past taken a brief stay in your fine city on my way to my Lake Norman lake house (Sherrills Ford) in the summer… I should be able to recognize you… you will be the one wearing I LOVE 2 HATE the U.

    Best wishes to you and your daughter. And again, I am sincerely sorry that I made you sick on this fine day.

    Go CANES!!!!

  32. chachooga says: Feb 8, 2013 12:35 PM

    @gamecocker

    I am nearly rolling on the floor laughing now….

    Little sensitive about the academic issue are we?!?!? hahahaha

    Even more hysterical is an SEC school lecturing anyone about corruption. Once yahoo gets past the tight lips and threats in the SEC it will be fun to watch. May never happen. But plz spare any of us the lecture.

    How tight lipped and corrupt is the SEC…two words…Cam Newton. nuff said.

    comedy joy!

    South Carolina 55%

    Miami 88%

  34. thegamecocker says: Feb 8, 2013 2:41 PM

    @chachooga

    Cam Newton was a terrible embarrassment for everyone in college football. The SEC, Auburn, and the NCAA. Now some positive news and I mean this sincerely: Cam Newton is enrolled at Auburn and earning credits toward his degree. I think that is laudable and he should be commended for this action. His time and actions at U. of Florida notwith- standing, he is at least doing the right thing as a role model by working toward his degree.

    @canehouse

    Apology accepted. Not an NBA fan but I do enjoy EATING and Joe’s Stone Crab is very good. Love Alaskan King Crab….daughter #1 was a Psych Major and earned her Masters at UPENN. Daugter #2 Rutgers grad and headed toward RU for Masters in Early Childhood Ed like her Mom…Carolina has to improve that football graduation rate as 55% is HORRIBLE.
