I know, the horror of it all.
Regardless, yet another player from an FBS program in Florida has found himself in a sticky, so to speak, off-field situation. According to the Miami Herald, FIU offensive lineman Prince Matt (not pictured) was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, while also producing a top-ten mugshot in the process.
Because of the amount involved, it’s a misdemeanor charge that’s already been settled with a $50 fine, the Herald reported. The school is aware of the situation.
“FIU Athletics is aware of an incident involving one of our student-athletes,” the athletic department said in a statement. “We are in full cooperation with the University Police Department and its investigation. Per athletics department policy, there will be no further comment on this incident until the completion of the investigation.”
The specifics of the incident that led to the arrest have not yet been disclosed.
“I do take matters like this extremely seriously. He will be dealt with in an appropriate manner,” new head coach Ron Turner said in his statement.
Matt was a redshirt freshman in 2012 who did not appear on the team’s final two-deep depth chart.
