A group of friends and neighbors, some fishermen, and off shore workers home for a few days are heading there later today (after the Mardi Gras parades are all past in south Louisiana). Requests for chain saws and operators were received so all are going with their own or borrowed ones. I will go along and help prepare meals, etc.

The school where he coaches had major damage and his home was fairly close to the tornado

Just heard about this. Saw video on the news. Saw an interview with the mayor, who said as he approached his house, the windows blew out. So far, some injuries, much property damage, but no deaths/casualties in Hattiesburg have been reported.

My prayers are with those affected. I will see if they need assistance there. I have some time available coming up.

My bass player’s mother-in-law lost her vehicle, apartment, and everything in it. Somehow she was not hurt. Tornados are no joke, especially in the last few years down this way.

My neighbor’s daughter was was on campus and said the damage happened suddenly and within what seemed to be a couple of seconds. They had no warning. By the time they rushed toward the basement, the storm had passed on.

Earlier in the evening, we were watching a Mardi Gras parade when we saw a funnel cloud pass by in the distance heading east. Several friends said we had better pray because that looked like a twister. We did. We are continuing to pray for those affected by this storm and who may be affected.

Major structures are down and are damaged in Hattiesburg, and some casualties reported. Students that were on campus were urged to exit and those not there were urged to remain away for at least several more days as assessments will be made of all facilities. Southwestern Alabama is now in the pathway of the storm.

Last report I heard there were10-20 injuries. USM Alumni Building badly damaged along with several other campus buildings. Oak Grove HS badly damaged also. Students were on a two day Mardi Gras holiday on campus, so many students were not there. Students told not to return to campus until further notified.
