It is nice to have an intelligent, understanding, and common sense fan on these posts for a change.

I salute you and all the Alabama fans that I met at the NC game. The vast majority were very cordial to me an others while we were at the game and the week leading up to the big day. Of course, we all have our idiots (as these posts confirm daily) but I hope, that your contact with ND fans were as enjoyable as I found with the Bama fans.

I do believe that both teams will be back near or at the top next year and for a number of years to come if the “experts” are correct.

I’m confident that we’ll meet again and give you a better game. You know we still hold a 5-2 edge on you?

You got me there, people do hate ND a lot but I believe that Alabama has narrowed the gap over the past few years. People hate a successful program and people have been hating on Coach Saban since WAY WAY before anything about grey-shirting or these arrest came out. It’s a shame that we live in an ‘if you can’t beat em, slander em’ society’ but that’s just the way it is unfortunately. Hey but at least you Irish and us Tide do have some common ground we can work with, there is hope yet. But you can have the title of most hated, I HATE all the hate that comes our way, but I will take it because it goes along with winning….

Okay … let’s talk one adult to another:

First, I’ve never denied that–as a whole–the B1G is academically superior to the SEC, although some individual schools within the SEC have better rankings than some individual schools within the B1G.

Second, while I’ve never checked it, I imagine your football players–as a whole–have higher academic rankings than SEC players … again, depending on the school.

I disagree that SEC players would be in the B1G if their grades allowed. I attended the best school in the country for my major–and that school happened to be in Big 12 at the time. I had a full tuition ride to Vandy for grad school when cancer intervened. Again, it was the best school for my subject. People chose their institutions for a variety of reasons. If I were a player looking at going pro, I’d choose Bama.

I’ve known doctors, lawyers, judges from SEC schools who are brilliant professionals with stellar careers. To say they’d have gone to the B1G if they could have is silly. They could have. It’s the same as saying all Wisconsin grads would have gone to Harvard if they could have. Not true. SEC schools have a lot to offer just as B1G schools do.

Yes, there are kids playing on ALL college football teams who aren’t intellectually strong enough to earn an academic scholarship to those institutions. And that probably happens more often at Alabama than it does at Wisconsin. But I believe that’s okay because right now, the NCAA is the farm system for the NFL. That’s the only way those kids can get to the pros. And kids who are athletically gifted have as much right to pursue their chosen career as kids who are academically gifted. I believe that. Being born into a ghetto and having limited opportunity for decent primary and secondary educations shouldn’t kill their dreams. They work as hard to rise above as athletes as any academic student does.

SEC schools lag in some respects for many reasons, some historic and economic. They’re catching up–which is why Georgia and Florida are now ranked alongside Ohio State. But it doesn’t mean the people of the region are inherently stupid or that they value athletics over academics. It just means change takes time. The graduation rate of Bama football players has increased significantly since Saban came to the program. Hopefully, that trend will continue.

I’m not saying all this isn’t valid subject matter. I’m saying it’s not valid subject matter when we’re on a football blog celebrating our national championship. And when all you want to talk about at that moment is how you think you are so much smart than the rest of us, it doesn’t sound as though you’re genuinely concerned for the welfare of our athletes. It sounds as though you’re being a nasty SOB.

You choose to ignore it, but many SEC fans have enumerated for you the championships the conference holds in other sports. Florida, Georgia, and Texas A&M are among the highest-ranked public schools in the nation. Alabama ranks first among public universities and fourth among all universities for enrollment of National Merit Scholars for the 2012-2013 school year. Missouri has the oldest school of journalism in the world and is considered the finest undergraduate institution for journalism studies–and it boasts its share of Pulitzer recipients. SEC schools also have many Nobel Prize recipients.

The reason we aren’t posting about our academic accolades on College Football Talk.com is because this is a site devoted to College FOOTBALL Talk. That’s the name on the masthead, and that’s the substance of the articles.

The only reason you are posting about your school’s academic accolades is because you have no FOOTBALL accolades to reference. You make ridiculous speeches about “why it’s called COLLEGE” because you are a disgruntled loser. Or perhaps you are fool enough to believe the thousands of students who’ve graduated from SEC schools and gone on to rewarding careers really cared only for winning football “at all costs.” Never mind that the only cost was recruiting and coaching football players just like your school does … only better.

What a sad and petty person you are.

#packerbadger, I see you on these SEC-related stories a lot. Trying to see what it’s like to be tied into a winning program for a change? Yeah, we have to deal with the good and the bad, unlike you. You miss out on the good part, don’t you? You’re pathetic, but keep the trash coming. One word, sport: scoreboard. Remind me again how many national championships that school in Madison, WI, has. I agree completely with classyjacklambert. These kids have been blessed with an incredible opportunity and it boggles the mind that they’d throw it all away on this kind of stupidity. Bama players are as capable of being idiots as any other players.

Huge talent, no doubt. Seemed to have a supportive family. Things like this are the dividends paid by a culture of privilege. When some rules don’t apply, you begin to think that NO rules apply.

Of course I hope it is all just some kind of misunderstanding–like I said not a bad kid. Unfortunatley this is what happens when the adults who are in charge of preparing you for the future are are too busy exploiting your talents. I’m talking to you, Coach Hale.

Tongue-tied about what? We are simply assuming that they will be kicked to the curb to await contact from Au-barn reps. Meanwhile, we are content to let all the kiddies take their playground shots at Saban.

Anyone who thinks a Bama fan or Saban condones this behavior is a fool. Players have been booted by Saban for less. I’d much rather support a IAA team rather than a team that looks past/covers this up.
