Georgia recruits well but Richt is an underachiever.

Four coaches–Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Meyer and the overrated Gene Chizik–all came into the premier college football conference in America and won National Championships. A fifth and sixth, Steve Spurrier and Phillip Fulmer, won NCs in the past. So, we’re paying “win-or-place” money for a coach that will always have his program at “show” levels.

And, despite his moderate success the past two years, he shows no sign or progress toward becoming a champion. You can say all you want about “five yards away for a NC,” but the fact remains that we still didn’t make it. His piss-poor OC notwithstanding, the team wasn’t completely prepared for the past two SEC championship games, just as they weren’t prepared for Colorado, Boise State, South Carolina (three year running), Oklahoma State and Florida (lots). Also, Richt just wants his players to compete. Those other guys want their players to win.

And so, for all us UGA faithful, we’ll have take what joy we can in very good seasons while waiting for someone else to take us to the promised land. And that’ll only happen when the powers figure out Mark just ain’t no gridiron Moses.

Georgia was 5 yards away from the National Championship Game and has won back to back SEC East titles.
