Mario Cristobal reportedly named Tide’s new O-line coach

Mario Cristobal AP

As of late last week, former FIU head coach and current Miami assistant Mario Cristobal was among those considered for Alabama’s vacant offensive line coaching job. Apparently, he’s now the favorite.

Per 247Sports and CBSSports, Cristobal is expected to be named the Tide’s new O-line coach. An official announcement has not yet come from Alabama, but one is expected soon.

The news comes just over a month after Cristobal was named Miami’s¬†associate (to the) head coach and tight ends coach. Cristobal was fired from FIU last year following a 3-9 season. He went 27-47 with FIU, but orchestrated a strong turnaround that saw back-to-back winning seasons in 2010 and ’11.

If/when the news becomes official, Cristobal would replace¬†Jeff Stoutland, who joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ staff under new coach Chip Kelly.

Happy to see he doesn’t hold any hard feelings from the 92 title game. Seriously though, great to have him on board.

Some people think the great value of this is recruiting the South Florida area. I think it valuable but UA always gets 1-3 Miami area recruits as is.

The real value is that he knows the OL. He was an All American at Miami on the OL during some of their best teams. He will be a great contribution in that Alabama has more talent than most think on the OL and if it comes close to next year he will be a prime HC candidate within a few years.

Hey Mario….just think….you could’ve been the Head Coach in Year II at either Rutgers or Pitt. Look where you are now? After seeing how Kyle Flood has performed at Rutgers, I wish you would have been the choice….oh, that’s right, you were the choice. But you opted to remain at that powerhouse FIU!!! You’re not too smart are you…..

@honkerdawg really man? I am a UM fan and wish he stayed but with addition of Coley at OC it was gonna be a strange year for Cristobal. I am no Bama fan, but this is obviously a good move for him. Probably for UM too. Bama pays….that is all there is up there….just don’t let yahoo get on your back.

Does he have to sit out for a year, like players have to do when they transfer?

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass Mario. Leaving your Alma Mater for Alabama will forever taint your legacy in our families eyes. We are gonna do it with or without you.

You may have overcome Mario….but you still have the “Wicked Witch of Coral Gables” riding her broom, Donna Shalayla….a hideous woman! From her political days, she wants to throw the entire NCAA under the bus and have all the infractions tossed aside. Hey Donna, that’s not how the NCAA does things: they already threw someone under the bus by firing female attorney. You’ve been “one-upped” you scoundrel!!!

Not only is your post incorrect, but you can’t even get her name spelled right.

I don’t care if I spelled that idiots name correctly. And it’s my opinion so that it cannot be wrong. Here is another opinion of mine: you’re a yutz
